Multiple Watchers Reportedly Set to Appear in Upcoming ‘Avengers’ Films!

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gradually gearing up for the debut of two eagerly awaited ‘Avengers’ films titled ‘Doomsday’ and its successor, ‘Secret Wars.’ These films are slated for phase 6 and while specifics about the storylines remain undisclosed, it’s likely that they will incorporate elements from the ‘Time Runs Out’ and ‘Secret Wars’ comic book arcs, to some extent.

In July 2022, Marvel Studios initially unveiled ‘Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,’ with Destin Daniel Cretton slated to direct and Jeff Loveness handling the script. However, by November 2023, both Cretton and Loveness departed from the project. Michael Waldron subsequently took over as the screenwriter. At the July 2024 SDCC, the film was rechristened ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ Interestingly, Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Doctor Doom, a role originally intended for Jonathan Majors’s character Kang.

The Russo brothers will be handling the direction for not just one but two upcoming movies, and production is slated to kick off in March 2025. These films are expected to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. In addition, the Fantastic Four will make an appearance in this film, with a few of the original actors reprising their roles.

In an official context, this is everything we currently know about the upcoming films. However, if you’ve been keeping up with leaks and whispers surrounding these projects, it’s likely that you’re aware of rumors suggesting over 50 characters will appear in each movie. But, to be honest, not all these rumors can be accurate.

According to current industry source, Daniel Richtman, it’s been reported that additional characters known as ‘The Watchers‘ will be featured in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies. Richtman has shared this information on his Patreon platform.

Considering the grand scheme, this logic holds true. The Watchers are a collective of highly knowledgeable entities hailing from the fifth dimension, serving as observers over the Multiverse. Their primary role is to primarily engage with fellow Watchers and avoid interfering in the decision-making processes that could potentially lead to alterations or even the downfall of distinct realities. Uatu, however, often deviates from these rules by intervening on several occasions.

The Watchers have been featured in multiple films up until now, and their most recent appearance was in ‘What If…?’ season 3. Given that the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movies are rumored to revolve around a Multiversal conflict, leading possibly to a full reboot of the franchise with ‘Secret Wars’, it seems logical to incorporate them into the storyline.

To date, just a handful of characters known as Watchers have been introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). These include Eminence, Executioner, Incarnate, with Uatu being particularly renowned among them.
