Nina Dobrev Opens Up About Survivor’s Guilt After LA Wildfires: ‘I Have Been Absolutely Sick to My Stomach With…’

Nina Dobrev shares her feelings of survivor’s guilt as her home, situated close to one of the numerous wildfires in Los Angeles, managed to withstand the destruction.

On her birthday, January 9th, an actress from The Vampire Diaries posted a video on her Instagram, which was shared on Saturday, January 18th. In this video, Dobrev explained that she had to leave her home on the day of her birthday due to a tragic event. She also mentioned that while her house survived, “unfortunately, many others did not have the same luck.

As a conscientious lifestyle advocate, I’ve been deeply affected by the heart-wrenching destruction and devastation these fires have brought upon our communities. Seeing so many families uprooted from their homes has left me with an unsettling sense of unease. It seems that many of us share this feeling, and for me, it manifests as a heavy burden of survivor’s guilt.

Dobrev expressed that leaving her house due to the fire was “certainly not part of my birthday plans,” and she invited her fans to contribute and aid those affected by the wildfires, making it her “birthday request.

She emphasized that what’s crucial at this moment is monetary support to enable individuals to regain stability, resume life as normal, and rebuild both their houses and their lives. Specifically, she highlighted the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, and Pasadena neighborhoods.

Dobrev pointed to a Google spreadsheet in her Instagram bio that listed families who had lost their homes in the fires as a place for donations. “For my birthday this year,” she stated, “I went through that list and made donations to those affected families, and it would be my heartfelt wish if you could do the same.” She urged her followers to consider donating any amount they can afford to help these families in their recovery efforts.

On Tuesday, January 7th, wildfires started in Pacific Palisades and swiftly moved to multiple spots nearby, burning down countless buildings such as houses and businesses across a vast expanse of land.

Dobrev empathized by imagining herself in the situation of those who lost their homes and possessions to fire, including cherished keepsakes that once provided a sense of safety. She stated that for some individuals, the extent of their loss is unfathomable and difficult to fully grasp.

In her post’s title, the actress highlighted that a specific area was set aside for African American families and historically underrepresented communities who have been significantly affected in the spreadsheet she provided. She ended the video with a sincere message, expressing, “The path to healing may be long, but I’m sending you all my warmth and affection.

The now-contained LA wildfires are reported to have claimed at least 27 lives.
