Peacock Cancels Horror Thriller Teacup After One Season; Here’s What We Know

Based on reports from Variety, it appears that the streaming platform Peacock has decided not to continue with the horror thriller series Teacup after its first season. Originally, this show was developed based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger and secured a direct-to-series order back in 2022. The series made its debut in October of 2024.

In the heart of rural Georgia, I joined forces with a tight-knit community as we united to confront an enigmatic peril. This captivating narrative delved into the universal struggles of endurance and solidarity against unforeseen adversity.

In this production, you’ll find Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Chaske Spencer, Kathy Baker, Boris McGiver, Caleb Dolden, Emilie Bierre, and Luciano Leroux as part of the main cast. This diverse group offers a blend of seasoned performers and promising newcomers, all aiming to attract a wide range of viewers.

The show featured a seasoned group of creative minds behind it. Ian McCulloch took on the roles of both writer and executive producer, while Atomic Monster’s James Wan, Michael Clear, and Rob Hackett served as executive producers.

Moreover, the executive production team was expanded to include Francisca X. Hu, Kevin Tancharoen, and Robert McCammon, who is renowned for penning the initial novel.

In my role as a devoted follower, I had the privilege of working under the guidance of E.L. Katz for the first two episodes, serving both as director and executive producer. For the concluding chapters, Tancharoen took the helm as director. The production house that brought it all together was none other than Universal Content Productions (UCP).

The show in question garnered a 70% positive review from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, indicating a divided reaction. As Variety’s Aramide Tinubu put it, the series initially presented a gripping and chilling storyline, but later veered into science-fiction chaos that didn’t quite deliver a satisfying conclusion.

Although Peacock doesn’t disclose viewing figures, the series failed to appear on Nielsen’s top 10 streaming rankings, leading some to speculate about its viewership. Even with positive reviews from critics, it seems that a notable absence of public interest might have played a role in its termination.

Despite the conclusion of the series “Teacup”, the production company, Atomic Monster, persists in their collaboration with streaming platform, Peacock.

At the moment, the company is busy with an as-yet unnamed spy thriller series featuring Simu Liu, famously recognized from his standout performance in Shang-Chi. Greenlighted in February 2024, this upcoming project is now being actively produced.
