Why Did Josh Radnor’s Ted Mosby Not Appear In How I Met Your Mother Spinoff? Co-Creator Reveals

Viewers likely felt a sense of nostalgic excitement when How I Met Your Father premiered, since several actors from the initial series, How I Met Your Mother, reprised their roles – everyone but Ted Mosby, portrayed by Josh Radnor.

As reported by People magazine, during a charity event for the Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego held at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom on January 11, show creator Craig Thomas and actor Radnor engaged in a conversation with the publication about a shared topic.

As a dedicated follower, I must admit that I wasn’t actively involved. To put it simply, the project would have needed to be exceptionally appealing for me to approach Josh with an invitation to join. Regrettably, things didn’t pan out that way, but all is well.

In its two-season run, the series headlined by Hilary Duff features appearances from original cast members like Cobie Smulders (Robin Scherbatsky) and Neil Patrick Harris (Barney Stinson) from the parent show.

Prior to the conclusion of the spin-off, it was reported that Jason Siegel, portraying Marshall Eriksen, had shown a willingness to continue being part of it.

According to People magazine, Alyson Hannigan, known for her role as Lily Aldrin, expressed that she isn’t quite ready yet to watch the spinoff of the show, despite her spouse, Alexis Denisof, making a guest appearance in it, reprising his character Sandy Rivers from the original series.

During the event on January 11, one of the show’s creators shared that they and Radnor were collaborating on a fresh project together, while having a chat with the press.

Thomas conveyed his delight upon learning Radnor had relocated to New York, as their frequent meetings were now imminent. He playfully hinted at a small collaboration between them, set for release in the spring, without revealing further details about its nature.

Later on, Radnor conveyed to the source that they would provide an “advance notice”, and Thomas assured them, “We’ll be the first to let you know when it’s appropriate, I promise.
