With Cameron Diaz making a comeback to Hollywood, there’s talk about her revisiting her iconic character Tina Carlyle from the 1994 movie “The Mask.” In her debut film, Jim Carrey portrayed Stanley Ipkiss, who was opposite Diaz.
During an interview discussing her latest Netflix movie titled Back in Action, Diaz hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the 1994 comedy if her co-star Carrey is willing. She expressed, “If Jim is on board, I’ve been hitching a ride on his success since day one,” she told Access Hollywood.
Diaz acknowledged the significant role Carrey played in her early career success, noting how working with him paved the way for her professional growth. This sentiment mirrors recent comments made by Carrey about their shared franchise.
In a different conversation, Carrey expressed that for a sequel to materialize, it requires an exceptional concept. He stated that if presented with a compelling idea or collaboration, he might reconsider his potential retirement.
Jim Carrey once said to ComicBook.com, “Well, you see, it needs to be a good concept. If someone has a good concept, maybe so. It’s not truly about the money. I sometimes make light of the money. However, one can never be completely sure about such matters.
He mentioned his desire for retirement, but later clarified that perhaps he was referring to relinquishing control rather than fully retiring. As soon as an exciting idea presents itself, or a team of people he genuinely enjoyed collaborating with arises, the situation tends to evolve in an unexpected way.
