Initially, the creators thought about extending certain plotlines, but ultimately chose not to do so. In terms of their artistic choices, Yost stated that they contemplated how much information to disclose in each scene. Although the series is based on Hugh Howey’s novels, there are modifications—such as altering character names and histories to better suit the television show.
