Emily Hampshire’s Horror Movie ‘Mom’ Gets a Trailer, Follows a Mother Struggling with Postnatal Depression

As a movie enthusiast, I’d say I was drawn into a chilling tale, where a resilient mother, brilliantly played by Hampshire, finds herself in a heart-wrenching situation. After a traumatic event, her family and partner desert her, leaving her alone and vulnerable. The narrative then takes a supernatural turn as she starts to confront eerie encounters with a malevolent force that compels her to revisit her deepest, darkest memories from the haze of postpartum struggle. This film offers a profoundly unsettling journey into the complexities of maternal despair.

In his first feature film as director, Adam O’Brien (alongside writer Philip Kalin-Hajdu), the movie boasts François Arnaud (“Marlowe”) and Christian Convery (“Cocaine Bear”) in its cast. This collaborative production comes from Delirium Pictures and Kinetic Film Group. The film has been generating buzz on the festival circuit, receiving positive reviews for its suspenseful atmosphere and Hampshire’s exceptional performance.

Keith Leopard, the head of Uncork’d Entertainment, showed his excitement by stating, “Adam and Philip have skillfully created a chilling and suspenseful supernatural thriller with an air of sophistication. This film is perfect for those seeking a spine-tingling, moody movie experience.

O’Brien stated, “We’re thrilled about what Uncork’d has planned for our movie, and we greatly value their attention to detail in every project. Working alongside Blue Finch makes us feel confident, and we can’t wait to let viewers enjoy our film.

The movie explores the sinister dimensions of motherhood, similar to the chilling tales of films like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Babadook.” The preview reveals a poignant storyline about a woman struggling with postnatal depression.

Emily Hampshire‘s character, Meredith, grapples with persistent worries about her parenting capabilities, leading to a tragic incident that pushes her away from her family. As her psychological condition worsens, she is tormented by ghostly apparitions of an evil presence and grotesque representations of her anxieties.

Film Director Adam O’Brien is recognized for his collection of award-winning short movies like ‘Banshee’ and ‘A Little Off the Top’, as well as his contributions to horror series such as ‘Nightmare Radio: The Night Stalker’.

Philip Kalin-Hajdu, both writer and producer, contributes extra horror know-how to the project, as he’s worked on the well-received “The Sacrifice Game”. The duo has crafted a film that has already received recognition, with Jury Awards for O’Brien and Hampshire at the Hellifax Horror Fest being among its achievements.

In the cast alongside Hampshire are François Arnaud and up-and-coming actor Christian Convery, enriching the film’s emotional and supernatural aspects. Having already demonstrated versatility since her time on Schitt’s Creek, Hampshire is now branching out further into genre productions like this one.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that starting from February 7, my mom (the movie, not the actual person!) will be having a limited run in theaters. But fear not, if you miss it there, you can catch it digitally or on VOD from February 11. This film is set to enthrall viewers with its powerfully gripping narrative and hauntingly deep dive into the complexities of motherhood.
