The Academy Award-winning director shared with Empire magazine insights into the upcoming Avatar sequel, hinting that the third movie will shift the ethical landscape of the series. He suggested that the Ash People, also known as the Mangkwan Clan, will be portrayed differently than previously thought by viewers.
Cameron stated, “Oona Chaplin plays a character who leads a group that has endured tremendous suffering. This experience has made her resilient and willing to undertake actions, some of which might be perceived as wicked by others, solely for the sake of her people.
Cameron clarified that Avatar 3 aims to surpass the basic portrayal of good versus evil. The film won’t adhere to a narrative where all humans are innately wicked and all Na’vi are morally pure. Instead, both groups will showcase a greater depth; the Na’vi will no longer be perceived as flawless but rather as complex entities.
Additionally, he shared that one goal for this movie was to avoid a straightforward, black-and-white perspective. Instead, they aimed to surpass the stereotype of portraying all humans as evil and all Na’vi as good.
