For the past week, destructive wildfires have been blazing across Los Angeles, leaving a trail of damage in their wake and claiming at least 25 lives. The fires, driven by extreme dryness and powerful winds, are currently ravaging about 45 square miles of densely inhabited regions.
Multitudes of firefighters are working relentlessly to suppress the blazes, however, the destruction caused is substantial, leading numerous residents to flee their homes. The Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire, ignited on January 7, have annihilated countless buildings and persist in burning, although efforts to contain them are being made.
Given the circumstances, it’s no wonder that numerous individuals, even celebrities, are discussing it extensively on social media platforms. Some seem to be leveraging it for personal gain, while others are utilizing it to score political points.
Danny Trejo is advising celebrities like Kim Kardashian to cease exploiting the LA wildfires for self-promotion purposes. In his opinion, given the destruction these fires are causing, attention should instead be directed towards aiding the affected people rather than furthering individual agendas.
As for the ongoing discussion about inmates receiving payment, I understand both sides of the argument, but at this moment, my focus is squarely on those who have lost everything. Compared to them, I’m fortunate enough to still have possessions. So, let’s prioritize our efforts and concern towards those who are wandering with nothing but the clothes on their backs, alright?
Kim Kardashian expressed concerns over the meager pay given to inmate firefighters despite the dangers they face. However, Danny Trejo argued against politicizing the issue, stating that these inmates receive other forms of compensation for their work in extinguishing fires.
You’re conversing with a female inmate. You understand, right? Inmates are okay, no worries. They have…I can hardly believe it. Everyone needs something to fight for. Listen, let’s first extinguish the fire and then we’ll discuss our next steps. By the way, I was once a criminal myself.

Danny Trejo, formerly a firefighter during his prison term, shared insights about the role, stating that inmate firefighters willingly take on the job and receive sentence reductions for their service. Kim Kardashian expresses admiration towards them as “heroes,” yet points out that they are paid just $1 per hour, a wage unchanged since 1984.
She additionally pointed out that a suggestion to boost wages to $5 per hour had been turned down prior to the latest fires breaking out, and she’s advocating for this decision to be reversed now.
Trejo notes that prisoners tend to prioritize shortening their prison terms over increasing their earnings. Moreover, he emphasizes that a significant portion of their income is usually allocated towards repaying debts (restitution), implying that any potential increase in pay would not significantly impact their disposable income.
