David Schwimmer Recalls Serving Rod Stewart Divorce Papers Before Fame: ‘Thank Goodness I’ve Never Run Into Him Since’

David Schwimmer once handed divorce documents to Grammy-winning artist Rod Stewart, an encounter he might prefer to avoid in the future.

On the latest edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the former Friends cast member reminisced about his past job as a process server, where he handed Stewart papers for an annulment of his marriage – an event that took place before he achieved fame.

I’m glad I haven’t met him since then, but I used to work for Rod Stewart. I’m not sure if he realizes it or not, though.” – Schwimmer stated.

Colbert, 60, chimed in, saying, “He knows now!”

Later on, the late-night television personality playfully suggested that the man, aged 58, might want to update his locksmith services, as Jon Stewart has a reputation for being quite vindictive.

There’s a possibility that you might meet Rod Stewart someday! Colbert jokingly noted, suggesting he should be prepared for a friendly punch.”

“It’s possible you could encounter Rod Stewart in the future! Colbert humorously implied that he should expect a light-hearted punch if they ever meet.

Previously during his conversation with the comedian, Schwimmer shared that he held numerous odd jobs, such as the ones involving bananas, prior to portraying Ross Geller in the popular NBC sitcom.

One summer following my first year in college, I found myself searching for employment. My mother suggested, “Why don’t you work as a process server for me instead?” she proposed. As it turned out, my mom was a divorce attorney, and my role would be delivering divorce papers to people on buses, which I humorously referred to as ‘popping out of buses.’

The award-winning actor, who had been nominated for an Emmy, didn’t specifically identify the woman that was his estranged spouse back then, but he did reveal that he was approximately 18 years old when the mentioned event occurred.

Stewart and his initial spouse, Alana Stewart, parted ways in 1984. During their union, they became parents to Kimberly, now aged 45, and Sean, who is 44 years old.

After having eight children, he got married to Rachel Hunter in the year 1990. Together, they had two more kids named Liam (born in 1993) and Renee (born in 1978). However, their relationship ended in 2006.

In the year 2007, Stewart tied the knot with Penny Lancaster, who is currently his spouse. They have two children together – Alastair, aged 10, and Aiden, aged 13.

Besides his other offspring, Rod also has two daughters – Sarah with his former partner Susannah Boffey, and Ruby with his past relationship with Kelly Emberg.
