The well-known disco band, famous for their song “Y.M.C.A.”, has announced they will be performing at multiple functions throughout the festivities leading up to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. At least one of these performances is scheduled to take place with Trump himself on stage.
On a Monday, Victor Willis, the frontman for the Village People, chose Facebook as his platform to announce. In his post, he revealed that despite potential disagreements, the band feels strongly that music should rise above political matters.
In simpler terms, Willis wrote that our hit song ‘Y.M.C.A.’ acts as a universal anthem, aiming to heal America following a contentious election where our chosen candidate didn’t win. The band also emphasized that music transcends politics and they believe ‘Y.M.C.A.’ could be the melody that helps unite the nation.
They emphasized that taking part in the inauguration was not an endorsement of any specific political stance, rather it represented the unifying influence of music.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I’m excited to share that one of the performances you might catch me grooving to could be by the iconic band, The Village People, at an Inaugural Eve Ball hosted by Turning Point USA – a dynamic organization that champions conservative ideals.
The upcoming ball is expected to be attended by Vice President-elect JD Vance, Donald Trump Jr., and Tulsi Gabbard, who has been nominated as the potential Director of National Intelligence, as per the information on the event’s official site.
This show holds great importance for the group, as they’re commonly linked with LGBTQ+ pride and their tunes are frequently regarded as emblems of gay culture. However, it’s important to note that the band has explicitly stated that Y.M.C.A. is not intended to be a ‘gay anthem.’
The transition team led by Donald Trump did not provide a response when asked about the concerts that the band played during the formal inauguration celebrations.
Despite the fact that the Village People have announced their participation in various occasions, there’s still some ambiguity about whether they’ll take the stage at any of the major, formal inauguration events scheduled for this coming weekend.
