For the first time, I came across Big Finish Productions, a renowned British audio drama company, primarily associated with its enduring license, “Doctor Who.” This company has produced hundreds, if not thousands, of audio dramas revolving around this classic sci-fi franchise. However, Big Finish isn’t limited to just “Doctor Who.” Many other popular sci-fi series from the ’60s and ’70s have been reborn in audio drama format due to Big Finish. Shows like “Blake’s 7,” “Sapphire & Steel,” “Thunderbirds,” and now, even “The Time Tunnel” are part of their extensive collection.
As a dedicated movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share that starting February 2025, Big Finish Productions, under license from Legendary Entertainment, will unveil an enthralling audio revival of the timeless sci-fi series, Irwin Allen’s “The Time Tunnel.” This captivating continuation features Sean Carlsen and Safiyya Ingar in the lead roles. For those who remember the original series from 1966 to 1967, it’s a joyous return, while for newcomers, it promises an exhilarating adventure. Set in the present day, this revival offers a fresh take on the classic storyline, ensuring a thrilling experience for all!
The plot for the new series is as follows:
In 1979, twenty years following its initiation, Project Tic-Toc was terminated by U.S. officials. Any attempts to rescue scientists Tony Newman and Doug Phillips, who had gone missing in the Time Tunnel back in 1968, have since been deemed futile.
2025 finds a team of four individuals uniting with the shared goal of covertly reopening an Arizona facility and reactivating its Time Tunnel. Their mission: locate Doug or Tony, as their past actions have inadvertently altered the present for the worse, creating a world now under the control of Rakervia.
Gary Russell, producer and script editor for the upcoming 2025 version of Irwin Allen’s ‘The Time Tunnel’, stated that while Allen’s original series had a lot of promise, it failed to reach a conclusion. This unfinished story serves as the foundation for this new adaptation. As famed author Ray Bradbury cautioned, time travel can be perilous – so be mindful not to trample on the delicate butterflies…
Robert Napton, SVP & Publisher at Legendary Comics, mentioned: “I’ve been a fan of Big Finish’s Doctor Who audios since I heard them at the Gallifrey One convention 30 years ago. It’s been exciting to collaborate with Big Finish and Synthesis to resurrect another cherished series for today’s era. I’m delighted that producer Gary Russell, along with executive producers Jason Haigh-Ellery and Nicholas Briggs, are so dedicated to revisiting the realm of Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel.
In February and November of 2025, the first two volumes of “Irwin Allen’s The Time Tunnel” will be released. Each volume contains three thrilling time travels and can be pre-ordered exclusively at www.bigfinish.com.
