The upcoming Marvel series titled “Weapon X-Men,” penned by Joe Casey, is generating a bit of perplexity among fans. Despite being advertised as a spinoff of the “One World Under Doom” event, Casey himself has clarified that these two aren’t directly linked.
In this show, we get a quick glimpse at Latveria, and there’s a reference to the present situation within the Marvel Universe. However, these elements aren’t heavily explored. When Casey first saw the promotional materials, he was taken aback as he had no involvement in deciding the branding.
Casey has publicly addressed the misunderstandings that have arisen, as detailed in his recent post on Substack. You can access the entire explanation by clicking on this link: [Casey’s Substack post].
Marvel has labeled the debut of WEAPON X-MEN as part of their forthcoming ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM storyline, but our series is unrelated to this event, aside from a brief scene set in Latveria’s forests and a casual reference to the current condition of the Marvel Universe. I question if that qualifies as a connection. Furthermore, I wasn’t aware that such branding was intended until the solicitation was released, so I couldn’t influence it either way.
However, I understand that some people might be unsure about the branding, caught between “yes, it is” and “no, it isn’t.” To me, this ambiguity presents an issue. The question now arises: Will WEAPON X-MEN profit from the affiliated branding? Or if the broader event fails to thrive in the marketplace, could that harm the series’ full potential? Honestly, your prediction is as good as mine. Here’s hoping for the best!

On this occasion, Casey isn’t facing a new challenge when it comes to marketing his work. He brought up his DC project, “Kneel Before Zod,” as an example of such struggles. The problem with this comic was its confusing message. Media outlets were uncertain whether the story fell within the current continuity or under the “Superman” umbrella, which negatively affected the series’ popularity potential.
Casey is currently pondering whether Weapon X-Men might face similar consequences, given that the “One World Under Doom” event’s performance in sales isn’t impressive.
Regardless of any issues that may arise, the first issue of Weapon X-Men is set to be released in February 2025, and the event branding remains unchanged, regardless of Casey’s preferences.
