As a die-hard admirer, I’m thrilled to share that SAG-AFTRA, the esteemed Hollywood guild, has generously committed $1 million towards aiding fire relief efforts. The flames, spreading like wildfire, have been causing havoc across various regions. In response, SAG-AFTRA made this announcement after postponing their in-person nomination ceremony, demonstrating their unwavering compassion and solidarity during these challenging times.
In a statement, the head of the organization, Fran Drescher, recognized and praised the broadcast journalists for diligently reporting on-site updates about the damage as they carried out their duties.
Let me express my gratitude and appreciation towards our dedicated broadcast journalists who brave fires, smoke, and burning debris daily to deliver essential news globally.
The statement continued by expressing that witnessing the devastation from these fires, the loss of lives and homes, has been heart-breaking. Of course, our sympathy is with everyone affected. However, we felt there was more to be done; we hope our commitment will help alleviate some of their suffering and aid them in rebuilding their lives following this disaster.
Drescher later disclosed that, like many others, he was impacted by the fires as well. This gives him a shared understanding and compassion for everyone going through this hardship. Furthermore, he mentioned that these challenging times have weakened immune systems. It’s crucial to prioritize health during disaster recovery efforts.
Previously, both SAG-AFTRA and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation have stepped forward to aid those in distress when a state experiences a disaster.
According to the latest updates, the charity funds given by the organization will help those members who unfortunately lost their homes due to fires, and this aid extends to the journalist community as well.
