DC Just Killed Off Aquaman in the Most Gruesome Way Possible in ‘DC vs. Vampires’

Battle Between DC and Vampires: World War V

Created by Matt Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt, this series delves into a world that has been ravaged by a vampire epidemic. Although the narrative might evoke memories of DCeased, it distinguishes itself through Rosenberg and Schmidt’s distinctive storytelling, which becomes more evident in this fresh issue.

The once-delicate peace between humans and vampires has disintegrated, leaving both factions on a quest for the offspring of Mister Miracle and Big Barda. In the beginning of issue six, these two groups coincidentally reach Mister Miracle’s residence at the same time.

In a surprising twist, the Vampire-Aquaman, dispatched by Grodd with a sinister intention of capturing a child, decides instead to endanger not one but two lives – Mister Miracle and the young girl, by drowning them. Jayna, the lone Wonder Twin left, steps in valiantly to halt this menace. However, her efforts are foiled by Mera, who utilizes her abilities to strengthen Aquaman in his lethal pursuit.

At their hideout, Green Arrow and Lois Lane clash about the assault on Gotham City, an incident that broke the peace treaty. Simultaneously, Damian Wayne suggests that Alfred may still be alive, given his recent transformation into a vampire.

As suspense builds, an enigmatic individual asks about Mister Miracle’s daughter. Upon discovering that she has passed away, the stranger’s identity is unveiled as Metron, paving the way for upcoming events.

Under the guidance of Queen Gordon, alongside Grodd and Aquaman, the formidable horde of vampires advances toward the human fortress. At first, Supergirl attempts to uphold the peace treaty, but ultimately she sets a boundary that ignites an intense conflict.

In this situation, it appears that humans are at a disadvantage. Aquaman queries Queen Gordon about releasing more troops. Instead, she chooses to let the humans continue their battle under the illusion of hope.

The scene takes a drastic turn as Darkseid appears. It becomes clear that his intention all along was to be near Barda and Scott Free’s daughter, a plot that Aquaman had disrupted.

Darkseid’s wrath erupts when Aquaman disobeys him, boasting about slaying a girl. Consequently, Darkseid ruthlessly eliminates Aquaman, resulting in a gruesome blast.

Following Aquaman’s demise, Darkseid sets loose his minions known as Parademons, targeting not only humans but also vampires. This dramatic twist compels the two feuding factions to rethink their standpoints. The emergence of Darkseid significantly alters the course of the conflict, potentially driving both humans and vampires towards an alliance for the purpose of withstanding the fury of Apokolips.

It’s surprising that Aquaman has died, given his importance in the broader DC universe. His unexpected demise has dealt a significant setback to the vampire group. Now, with the struggle for Earth’s survival intensifying, the risks are greater than ever.

In an original take, the surprising turn of events distinguishes “World War V” from similar narratives such as “DCeased“. It promises exciting new developments in a grim conflict that is sure to captivate us. With Darkseid’s ominous presence casting a shadow over everything, it will be fascinating to witness how Rosenberg and Schmidt shape the course of this war.
