Jonathan Bailey’s Shirtless Scene Cut from ‘Wicked’—But Could It Return in Part Two?”

During a chat with Entertainment Tonight, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande shared that Jonathan Bailey shot a scene without a shirt for ‘Wicked’, but this scene was removed from the movie. When inquired about why it didn’t end up in the final film, the actresses playfully hinted to fans, suggesting there might be a chance of seeing it at some point in the future.

Erivo grinned, saying, “You don’t have to worry about it right now. Just be patient. In time, good things will arrive for those who are patient.” It sounds like there are exciting developments planned for the upcoming installments of the movie franchise.

Grande playfully proposed, “‘Perhaps it’ll find its way into ‘For Good,” she said, implying that maybe during the most significant ballad in our lives, when we sing ‘For Good,’ it could be a montage of Jonathan Bailey without a shirt.

Not only did the movie’s director, Jon M. Chu, join the excitement, but he hinted at a potential shirtless appearance in the sequel. When asked about it, he suggested that while nothing is set in stone for now, fans might want to keep an eye out as “Things could change in the future, but for the moment, it remains locked away.” So, fans will have to stay hopeful and wait to discover if this scene finds its way into the upcoming film, Wicked: Part Two.

In April 2022, director Jon M. Chu announced that the movie adaptation of ‘Wicked’ would be split into two parts. He stated that condensing the whole narrative into a single film might compromise its integrity. Reducing songs or characters seemed like a significant concession to the original content. By producing two films, they could maintain the story’s authenticity and provide more layers and unexpected twists to the character arcs.

The simultaneous filming for ‘Wicked’ and its sequel began in early stages, with nearly both completed by July 2023. However, the production came to a halt due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming recommenced on January 24, 2024, and was concluded just two days later, on January 26.

The musical “Wicked: For Good” is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures in the U.S. on November 21, 2025.
