Mark Zuckerberg serves as the CEO of Meta Platforms Incorporated, the entity that manages Facebook, Instagram, Threads, WhatsApp, Meta Quest, Ray-Ban’s smart glasses, Orion augmented reality glasses, and various other digital tools, gadgets, and services.
Today, Zuckerberg appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience, the most popular podcast in the world.
The discussion encompassed various topics, primarily revolving around Meta’s interactions with the Biden administration during the COVID era. Additionally, Zuckerberg’s recent move to discontinue the Meta fact-checking program was brought up. It’s worth noting that Zuck is among several tech leaders who seem to be leaning toward the growing conservative, pro-Trump, tech-centric movement, which advocates for free speech, cryptocurrency, and technological innovation.
Mark Zuckerberg stated, “During the Biden administration’s vaccine rollout, they attempted to suppress anyone who disputed it and pressured us forcefully to remove content that was, in fact, accurate. They demanded that any posts suggesting vaccines had side effects be taken down. I made it clear that we would not comply with such a request.
It Was Brutal – Zuck
Due to this situation, according to Zuck, the Biden administration expressed strong disapproval to their staff, criticizing them harshly and using profanity, urging them to remove content related to COVID-19 and vaccines. Furthermore, they requested Meta to suppress memes that touched upon these topics as well.
When he pushed back, the Biden regime started investigating his companies.
“It was brutal.”
Mark Zuckerberg stated, “We had entities scrutinizing us that weren’t even associated with Social Media. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was one of them, a bureau I wasn’t familiar with before. It seems to be a financial institution created by Elizabeth Warren. As Meta isn’t a bank, it’s unclear why they were interested in us. They proposed a theory and seemed determined to apply it.
I’m not sure about the rules – are they official guidelines or simply agreed upon by many? It can be difficult being on the receiving end. The U.S. government should protect its businesses, not attack them head-on. Over the last decade or so, the European Union has fined tech companies over $30 billion. This seems to be a consistent EU policy regarding technology, similar to a tax or tariff.
Zuckering pointed out that the U.S. government orchestrated strikes against its own businesses, thereby empowering the EU and other nations to target these American corporations too.
He expressed the opinion that the American tech sector serves as a shining beacon within the U.S. economy, representing a significant strategic advantage. He suggested that this sector ought to be incorporated into the U.S.’s future strategic plans to protect it.
Mark Zuckerberg believes cultural shifts are underway, expressing optimism about Trump’s intentions: “I believe he primarily aims for the U.S. to succeed. It’s crucial that in our country, there is rule of law and everyone gets a fair chance in court. Unfortunately, not all countries share this. For the U.S. to remain strong, it needs to play a role in safeguarding its technology.
Regarding the phasing out of META‘s fact-checking program, Zuckerberg mentioned his plan to implement a system similar to Community Notes, citing Twitter and other platforms as examples. He believes this approach is superior because it involves the entire community in the fact-checking process rather than relying on a small number of fact-checkers. This method provides more information, not less, and uses community notes to offer genuine context and additional details. In his opinion, this system offers a better way to combat misinformation.
