Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Brings Chaos and Charm in New Trailer

Recently, SEGA and RGG Studios held a Like a Dragon Direct event, offering new insights into ‘Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii‘. This game serves as a continuation from ‘Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’, with Goro Majima taking center stage. After suffering memory loss, Majima assumes the role of a pirate captain, guiding his crew through thrilling escapades both on land and at sea.

The game incorporates a fight sequence similar to earlier games in the series, with its combat system. Majima has two distinct fighting styles: ‘Mad Dog’, characterized by quick movements, and ‘Sea Dog’, which allows him to wield dual cutlasses and pistols simultaneously. A notable upgrade is the option to leap and execute combos while airborne, introducing an additional dimension to the fight mechanics.

In this game, you’ll journey through diverse settings like Rich Island, Madlantis, Nele Island, and Honolulu. Each destination presents distinct trials and stories that add richness to the gameplay. Apart from land skirmishes, you can build a pirate crew and enhance your ship, the Goromaru. This ship is crucial for traversing the open seas and participating in live naval clashes with other pirates. Additionally, you have the option to invade enemy ships to face off against their crews and captains personally.

This game reintroduces fan-favorite minigames such as Karaoke, Crazy Delivery, and Dragon Kart. There’s a fresh side activity called ‘Masaru’s Love Journey’, where players assist Majima in winning the affections of several Minato girls for the character Masaru Fujita. You can also relish classic 8-bit games from previous Sega systems, like Poseidon Wars 3D, Space Harrier 3D, and Star Jacker. Don’t forget to try your hand at The Ocean Hunter, an exciting arcade game!

Six months after ‘Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth’, the tale unfolds with Majima, who finds himself entangled in disputes involving Hawaiian pirates and ex-yakuza from Japan. New characters like Noah Rich, Jason Rich, and Masaru Fujita join the cast, while familiar figures such as Taiga Saejima and Nishida reappear, adding depth to the plotline.

Originally conceived as an independent extension for ‘Infinite Wealth’, its overwhelming success paved the way for its transformation into a complete game on its own. The warm response to ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name’ inspired further growth within the series, and I couldn’t be more thrilled about that! Opting for Hawaii as our main setting provided an opportunity to delve into fresh landscapes beyond typical Japanese settings, which I find incredibly exciting.

The action-packed game titled ‘Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii’ is set to launch on February 21, 2025. This title will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PCs, Xbox One, and the new Xbox Series X/S. With its intriguing mix of yakuza and pirate storylines, players can expect an original and unpredictable journey filled with thrilling experiences.
