Alec Baldwin Files Lawsuit Claiming Civil Rights Violations in Rust Shooting Case

Alec Baldwin has filed a lawsuit against city authorities in Santa Fe, alleging that they intentionally pursued legal action against him and infringed upon his civil liberties by filing criminal charges related to the unfortunate incident involving cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the film “Rust.” This unfortunate situation was due to an unintended gun discharge.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, a lawsuit submitted to the federal court of New Mexico alleges that prosecutors intentionally concealed crucial evidence to disadvantage Baldwin, and furthermore, it suggests that the charges against him were instigated for political reasons.

According to Baldwin, Mary Carmack-Altwies, District Attorney of Santa Fe, and special prosecutor Kari Morrissey are accused of manipulating evidence and extracting false testimonies against him. The lawsuit claims that they intentionally sought to blame the actor at every opportunity and collaborated to unfairly expedite or boost his trial and conviction.

Following New Mexico’s top prosecutor’s decision not to challenge a judge’s verdict dismissing involuntary manslaughter charges against Baldwin, this criticism arises. According to the judgment, the prosecution failed to disclose crucial evidence and neglected to meet discovery obligations. Additionally, the court pointed out discrepancies in Morrissey’s testimony regarding the hidden evidence.

Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro, legal representatives for Baldwin, assert that the political intentions behind the prosecution infringed upon his civil liberties and subjected him to unwarranted harassment. They emphasized that prosecutions should be aimed at seeking truth and justice, not for personal or political gain, or to torment the innocent.

Nikas and Spiro asserted that Morrissey and other officials repeatedly breached a fundamental rule, blatantly infringing upon Alec Baldwin’s rights. The lawsuit also alleges instances of defamation, misuse of the legal system for harmful purposes, and manipulation of evidence.
