The show “Creature Commandos” wrapped up its initial season, and based on the finale, Mission Task F is set to continue. Not only will there be a second season, but it appears that the team may grow larger. But which DC Comics monsters might join Amanda Waller’s squad next? There’s no dearth of creatures from DC’s past that James Gunn could employ. Here are some DC monsters we’re hoping to see in “Creature Commandos” season two, as well as a few we hope DC Studios keeps under wraps for now.
DC Monsters We Want to See in Creature Commandos
Solomon Grundy
Solomon Grundy is a renowned DC Comics villain, initially appearing as a nemesis for Green Lantern in the Golden Age, later joining Batman’s rogues gallery. A nearly indestructible, simple-minded character resembling a pasty white zombie, Grundy was originally a man named Cyrus Gold, who met his end in the 19th century and was buried in a swamp. Revived over time by mystical gas emissions from the swamp, he transformed into the undead creature known as Solomon Grundy. In an upcoming season of Creature Commandos, Solomon Grundy could be an ideal addition to Task Force M due to his powerful physique. Moreover, his slow-witted reactions to various situations could make him a hilarious character, similar to his comic relief roles in shows like Justice League Unlimited and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. Given Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s fondness for zombies, we believe Grundy would be a perfect fit.
Giganta
This renowned adversary of Wonder Woman, who gained fame as a member of the Legion of Doom in the animated series Super Friends, might appear human, but she’s far from it. Known as Giganta, this character was originally an ape that underwent mutation to resemble a human woman. Interestingly enough, she is capable of growing to towering heights, multiple stories tall. With Circe, another villainess, making an appearance in Creature Commandos, one might wonder if Giganta could follow suit. We believe that James Gunn would find the concept of writing about a powerful ape disguised as a glamorous woman quite intriguing. If Grundy joins Task Force M, it would mark a reunion of sorts for both villains within the Legion of Doom.
Mister Mind
In the first Shazam! movie, remember how Mister Mind was introduced in the post-credits scene as a villain? However, he didn’t appear in the sequel. Now, imagine if James Gunn could breathe life into this classic Captain Marvel antagonist, a genius-level sentient worm from Venus. Yes, Golden Age comics were quite quirky! Given his goofy nature, Mister Mind seems like a perfect fit for a show like Creature Commandos. Considering there’s no Shazam! 3 on the horizon, it would be great to see him as part of Task Force M instead.
DC Monsters We Don’t Want in Creature Commandos (Yet)
Man-Bat
A well-known and sorrowful adversary of Batman, the Man-Bat, has posed a constant threat to the Dark Knight over time. In fact, he was a key character in an early and influential episode of Batman: The Animated Series. Dr. Kirk Langstrom attempted to alter his genetic makeup using bat DNA, but instead, he turned into a fearsome half-bat creature. Given his unique abilities, the Man-Bat would undoubtedly be a great addition to the Creature Commandos team. However, we hope that filmmaker James Gunn is planning to introduce this character into the DC Universe through a Batman-centric project in live-action form rather than having him debut with the Creature Commandos. While animation has its merits, it’s time for Man-Bat to face off against Batman in live-action.
Etrigan the Demon
In the 1970s, Jack Kirby brought to life the demonic Etrigan through DC Comics. This was also the era of Kirby’s “New Gods” series. Etrigan is a reptilian and yellow humanoid being who happens to be an ancient rhyming demon. Interestingly, he shares his physical form with a medieval man named Jason Blood. The wizard Merlin cast this curse upon him due to his betrayal of Camelot. Similar to Man-Bat, Etrigan is such an intriguing character that it seems unfair to present him merely as a supporting figure in “Creature Commandos”. Instead, he deserves his own standalone project, whether it’s live-action or animated. Eventually, he may encounter or even team up with them, but first, there should be a solo series or movie featuring Etrigan.
Killer Croc
Waylon Jones, also known as Killer Croc due to his crocodile-like appearance and past as a carnival oddity, has been causing trouble for Batman since the 1980s. He made an appearance in the initial Suicide Squad film, portrayed by actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. However, it’s unclear if that movie aligns with DCU continuity or not (if it does at all). Although Croc could meet the criteria for Task Force M membership, we believe it would be wiser to delay his inclusion. Similarly to Man-Bat, when they eventually introduce Croc, it should be in a story connected to Batman.
