In simpler terms, Brenda Song shared with Bustle that Pamela Anderson’s optimistic attitude inspired the cast of Last Showgirl. During interviews, Song explained that director Gina Coppola aimed to instill a “less is more” philosophy when it came to makeup during filming of the 2024 indie movie.
During their stage performances as showgirls, the actors donned extravagant makeup, but for the rest of the filming, they went without any cosmetics. Looking back on the production, Song acknowledged that her costar Anderson’s insightful counsel – who is renowned for promoting natural beauty – prompted them to experiment with this approach.
On our first day trying makeup, Gia exclaimed, “This feels unbelievable,” and Pam responded, “These women don’t have time for it.” Later on, the Suite Life of Zack and Cody star reminisced, sharing that Anderson noted if she wasn’t wearing makeup, no one else needed to be.
In the movie, Song confessed that the unique and liberating aspect of portraying Marianne involved shooting scenes without makeup, stating, “It was refreshing not to worry constantly.” She further mentioned that throughout the filming process, she didn’t experience any feelings of insecurity.
Song also recalled working with women made her feel supported, comfortable, and beautiful.
