Is it possible that Robert Pattinson‘s Batman from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” and future films might be our version of the famous character within the DC Universe? There are whispers suggesting that James Gunn and DC Studios are contemplating this option. However, we don’t support this idea personally. In our view, the Batman in the upcoming “The Brave and the Bold” should maintain a separate identity from Reeves’ version. If it does happen, could it work? Perhaps, but there’s a chance. This concept has been used before in DC Comics.

DC Comics Set the Example for How a Realistic Batman Can Exist in a Fantastical Universe

In essence, Matt Reeves’ portrayal of Gotham City for Batman is grounded and realistic, differing from the upcoming Superman or Creature Commandos universe. Interestingly, this gritty depiction mirrors how Batman was initially reintroduced to the modern era in Frank Miller’s “Batman: Year One,” which lacked any sci-fi or supernatural elements. Instead, it presented a real-world Gotham. Admittedly, there was a brief nod to Metropolis, but the rest of the DC universe remained fantastical beyond those panels. Readers embraced this dichotomy, accepting that outside these comics, a more extraordinary DC world existed. With only one Reeves Batman movie to date, it’s still early in the franchise, leaving room for potential introduction of more fantastical elements in future installments.

In addition to The Batman appearing to take place in the present or at least the 2020s, it’s possible that future DCU projects like Superman might be set in the near future. This would allow for many costumed heroes to have made their appearance after Robert Pattinson’s portrayal of Batman. James Gunn mentioned that his DCU will include characters dating back to WWII, but there could be a time gap between those early heroes and the modern-day superheroes. The debut of Batman could potentially fall within this time frame.

The discussion about Robert Pattinson’s Batman in the new DCU brings a sense of déjà vu to superhero film enthusiasts.
