Colman Domingo Talks About His Transformation While Portraying Joe In Michael Jackson Biopic

In my pursuit of acting excellence, I’m always prepared to pour every ounce of myself into a role, no matter what my character demands. Recently, I had the privilege of embodying Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson‘s father, in the biopic, Michael, under the guidance of director Antoine Fuqua. This transformation was truly an enriching experience for me.

In my fervent enthusiasm as a die-hard fan, let me share with you an intriguing tidbit from Domingo’s interview with W Magazine for Best Performances. He revealed that in his upcoming project, the audience won’t recognize him as he usually is. He went on to explain that he has undergone a complete metamorphosis and that his complexion has been deliberately lightened because Joe, the character he’s portraying, has a touch of fair skin.

In simpler terms, the actor from ‘The Madness’ mentioned that for his role, he wore prosthetics on his head near his eye and sported a distinctly unique nose. Additionally, he highlighted that his character Joe underwent transformations to reflect different periods in his life – portraying a younger, smoother version of Joe who embodied more of the hustle.

Domingo went on to explain that when Joe started sporting a small belly, the actor found himself in need of one as well. He further mentioned, “Just like many men who carry their bellies with pride, his pants would slide down low.

The head of the Jackson family, who passed away at 89 in 2018, was not only a well-known member of this renowned family but was also faced with severe abuse accusations from some of his children, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Previously speaking with the mentioned publication, Domingo explained his motivation for accepting this role. He revealed that he chose to do so because he understands that various public perceptions of him differ greatly from what his family and close associates believe or think about him.

The actor stated that the situation is quite intricate. He additionally shared his intention to understand Joe better, uncover what drove him, and discover why he became such a remarkable artist. According to the actor, this was all because of Joe’s actions and the significant influence he had.

The Rustin star remarked, “I can’t tell if it’s good, bad, or ugly, but I am definitely intrigued. I want to discover what lies beneath the hats, earrings, gold necklaces, and everything else.

Michael is slated to be released on October 3, 2025.
