Nicki Minaj, a rapper who’s been nominated for Grammys, is facing a lawsuit from her ex-tour manager, Brandon Garrett. The lawsuit, filed on January 3, 2025, in Los Angeles, accuses Minaj of assault, battery, and causing emotional distress. According to the lawsuit, this incident occurred during her Pink Friday tour in April 2024.
In a thrilling turn of events that sent shockwaves through my fangirling heart, I’ve uncovered details about an incident that unfolded backstage at the legendary Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on April 21, 2024, following Nicki Minaj’s electrifying performance. These juicy tidbits were revealed in court documents obtained by none other than TMZ and Variety!
As an over-the-moon fanatic, I can’t help but share my experience that seems too surreal to be true! Allegedly, I was summoned to Nicki Minaj’s private sanctum by her trusted enforcer, Larry Dathan, the man behind the scenes. The room, a hive of activity, buzzed with the presence of no less than eight staff members, each playing their unique roles. Among them was Luke Montgomery, the mastermind who orchestrated everything from setting up dressing rooms to arranging hotel accommodations and tour buses. It’s like I stepped into the heartbeat of a well-oiled machine!
At the gathering, it’s said that Nicki Minaj expressed annoyance concerning job assignments and duties among the team members. Apparently, she inquired Montgomery to clarify his duties. Upon hearing that Montgomery was responsible for managing various chores, such as picking up prescriptions for Minaj, she is reportedly said to have grown agitated.
Garrett alleges that after initially directing her anger at someone else, Minaj shifted her anger towards him, asserting that he had assigned the task of picking up prescriptions to Montgomery. The complaint states that Minaj angrily exclaimed, “Are you insane giving this task to him? You’re absolutely nuts! If my husband [Kenneth Petty] were here, he would knock out your teeth. You’re a walking corpse.
The court case also claims that Minaj swung her hand at Garrett on the right side of his face, which made him jerk his head back and lose his hat.
Additionally, he asserts that she struck his wrist, causing it to ache continuously. Garrett declared that following the incident, he confined himself to a bathroom for extended periods and subsequently received a text informing him that he wasn’t required for the upcoming tour venue.
Garrett has submitted a formal police complaint in Detroit and is currently pursuing compensatory damages which include both compensatory examples and overall compensation.
Nicki Minaj’s attorney, Judd Burstein, countered the allegations, explaining that no formal complaint had been submitted at the time of his response. In conversation with TMZ, Burstein expressed, “If the lawsuit as reported by TMZ is accurate, it’s entirely false and baseless. We are certain that this former assistant’s case will be quickly dismissed in favor of Mrs. Petty.
This legal action increases the level of examination that Nicki Minaj, a celebrity renowned for her forceful public image, is currently undergoing. These accusations surface during her Pink Friday Tour, which is one of the most eagerly awaited milestones in her professional life. At this point, the case remains in its initial phase without a specified court date.
