As a die-hard DC fan who has followed the intricate web of DC Extended Universe (DCEU) for years, I can only imagine the captivating narrative that David Ayer would have crafted in “Suicide Squad 2.” Having Scott Eastwood reprising his role as Lieutenant GQ Edwards, only to reveal a thrilling twist, was an exciting prospect.
Eastwood’s comments about potentially reimagining his character piqued my curiosity and fueled endless speculation among fans like myself. The tantalizing possibility of seeing Scott Eastwood don the mantle of Nightwing or another iconic DC character was a delightful thought, adding depth to an already intriguing character.
However, as fate would have it, Ayer’s plans for “Suicide Squad 2” never came to fruition. While I can only speculate about what could have been, the tantalizing glimpses into Ayer’s vision for the sequel leave me longing for the day when we might see his work in a future project.
In the meantime, I’ll continue to fantasize about Scott Eastwood as Batman (and maybe even a cameo by his father, Clint Eastwood, as an aged Alfred Pennyworth). After all, who wouldn’t want to witness a scene where the Eastwood dynasty graces the silver screen together in a DC film? Now, if only they could make that happen… perhaps in a “Suicide Squad” spin-off featuring the dynamic duo!
In a possible scenario if David Ayer directed Suicide Squad 2, Scott Eastwood’s character, Lieutenant GQ Edwards, might have experienced an unexpected transformation. During his recent promotions for the movie Alarum, Eastwood hinted at discussions regarding his role in the sequel. However, rather than reappearing as the same character, it was suggested that his persona would be unveiled as a completely different individual.
Eastwood shared that discussions took place about recasting his character in a new light. “I was aware of conversations revolving around transforming my role into a different character and potentially returning. However, David Ayer did not helm the following movie.
After that, I found myself saying something along the lines of, ‘Alright, let’s find out. Let’s discover what’s coming next. Is it an interesting character? Who is it?’ However, unfortunately, Ayer did not direct the sequel, so those plans didn’t come to fruition.
Fans have often wondered what character GQ Edwards might have evolved into, with some whispers implying he could’ve been Dick Grayson, or Nightwing. However, Eastwood didn’t reveal any concrete details but did hint that Ayer’s concept for the sequel involved a larger part for Edwards.
If someone inquired whether additional aspects of his character were shown in the original version of “Suicide Squad” directed by Ayer, Eastwood confessed he hadn’t watched it, stating, “Can I watch it? I haven’t seen it yet.
For decades, fans have been eagerly anticipating the possible release of the “Ayer Cut”, much like how Zack Snyder’s version of Justice League became available. Eastwood’s recent remarks only fuel more curiosity and speculation about what could potentially transpire in this scenario.
Despite Ayer’s plans for the sequel not coming to fruition, Eastwood hasn’t dismissed the possibility of rejoining the DC Universe. When queried about his preference for other roles, he openly expressed an affinity towards Batman. “To be honest, among the DC characters, I lean more towards Batman. I think he’s the most intriguing character because he leads a life that involves two distinct identities, which I find more captivating than some of the others.
At this moment, James Gunn’s “Suicide Squad 2” is still just a hypothetical situation, but it’s evident that there were grand plans to elaborate on David Ayer’s original storyline. It’s unclear if we’ll ever get to witness those story developments, or even the much-discussed “Ayer Cut,” as the future remains uncertain.
