As a seasoned manga critic with over two decades immersed in the world of shonen, I must say that the latest chapter of Boruto has taken a dramatic turn that echoes the darker tones of its predecessor, Naruto. The ominous atmosphere and the looming danger have me on the edge of my seat, eagerly awaiting each new revelation.
In the next phase of Boruto‘s saga, titled “Two Blue Vortex“, we’ve noticed a more somber and rugged turn. Despite this change in tone, it hasn’t quite reached the level of intensity one might expect due to the absence of major character deaths so far. However, hints at upcoming events indicate that one of our primary characters could meet a sad and potentially fatal end.
In Chapter 17, Team 7 embarks on a perilous journey centered around the Divine Trees, with Ryu and Matsuri tagging along. Guided by Shikamaru’s cunning tactics, the operation largely hinges on deception. Konohamaru, Sarada, Mitsuki, Yodo, and Araya aim to dupe the trees into believing they are friends before launching an assault. This daring maneuver relies on the trees’ current tranquil condition, as they only attack when provoked.
Boruto and Kashin Koji watch the mission with Eida’s abilities. When Boruto queries about potential hazards in the plan, Kashin Koji remains elusive, causing irritation. It’s evident that Kashin Koji isn’t disclosing all details. Despite his seemingly assured approach, his secretive actions hint at a higher degree of risk for Team 7 than he seems to be acknowledging.
As a movie buff, I’d rephrase it like this: “I find myself divided in my mission, with Mitsuki leading one squad to take on Ryu while Konohamaru tackles Matsuri solo. The disparity in strength is striking. Even with Mitsuki utilizing Sage Mode, he could still face a tough challenge against Ryu, whose power seems comparable to the formidable foes that young Boruto only just managed to best.
In this situation, if Matsuri figures out the plan during her one-on-one battle with Konohamaru, it might lead to an unfavorable outcome. This idea is plausible.
In the midst of our current mission, it appears that I, Konohamaru, may be the one in the most precarious position. My hesitation during our strategy discussions with Shikamaru suggests doubt, a feeling that could prove costly should the situation escalate. The genre of shonen stories frequently involves a mentor’s selfless act for the greater good, and given my isolated position, I find myself more exposed than others.

It’s possible that Boruto could intervene if a situation turns sour, as Mitsuki discovered an item resembling a teleportation device that once belonged to him, potentially enabling his timely intervention in emergencies.
Consequently, if such events unfold, they might spark a fresh bout of turmoil, potentially putting Team 7 in even more danger. The intentions of Kashin Koji are still obscure as he argues for the common good, yet seems ready to make significant sacrifices—even ones that involve Boruto’s dearest friends.
This curve in events has greatly amplified the importance of the situation at hand. The aftermath of this operation, regardless of whether it results in triumph or a catastrophic setback, is expected to leave long-term impacts. With tension escalating, we’re preparing for some of the most gripping scenes that the series has yet to offer.
