As a cinephile who has been around the block more times than I care to count, I must say that the news of ‘The Black Phone’ sequel has left me absolutely spellbound! I’ve seen my fair share of horror flicks, and this one truly stood out with its unique blend of suspense, mystery, and a dash of supernatural elements.
The Black Phone” is a 2021 horror movie, directed by Scott Derrickson and inspired by a short story penned by Joe Hill. In this film, Mason Thames portrays Finney, a character who gets abducted by a notorious kidnapper called The Grabber, played skillfully by Ethan Hawke.
In captivity, Finney employs an enigmatic black phone to converse with the spirits of The Grabber’s former victims, aiding him in devising his breakout strategy. Additionally, the film showcases performances by Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and James Ransone.
The announcement in October 2023 revealed that a follow-up to ‘The Black Phone’ was in the works, initially slated for release in June 2025, but now scheduled for October 2025 instead. The original director and co-writer, Scott Derrickson, along with C. Robert Cargill, will pen the sequel. They are also set to produce the movie alongside Jason Blum.
JustJared has revealed who’ll be returning among the cast for the upcoming film, as well as the fresh faces set to join the team, with their specific roles yet to be unveiled.
In the upcoming sequel for ‘The Black Phone’, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Miguel Mora, Jeremy Davies, and Ethan Hawke will rejoin the cast. Specifically, Thames will once again take on the character of Finney Shaw, McGraw as Gwen Blake, Mora as Robin Arellano, and Davies as Terrence Blake. Although he hasn’t officially agreed to return yet, as of April 2024, Ethan Hawke has expressed his enthusiasm for resuming his role as Grabber/Albert Shaw, the film’s antagonist.
In the upcoming sequel, James Ransone, who played Max Shaw in the initial movie, won’t be reprising his role because his character met a tragic end following a fierce altercation. Joining the new cast is Arianna Rivas, famously known for ‘Prom Dates’ and ‘Danger Force,’ although specifics about her role in the sequel are yet to be revealed. Similarly, Demian Bichir, fresh from his role in ‘Without Blood,’ will also join the cast, but further information concerning his character is being kept secret.
