How Matthew McConaughey Feels About Leaving Hollywood For Texas? Actor Shares The ‘Push And Pull’ Of His Country Lifestyle

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but admire Matthew McConaughey‘s journey from Hollywood heartthrob to Texas troubadour. His decision to move back home after years of stardom in Tinseltown is a testament to his strong roots and unwavering commitment to authenticity.

Actor Matthew McConaughey, who returned to his native Austin, Texas in 2014 with his wife Camila Alves, recently shared thoughts about the balance between rural living and urban life – often referred to as the “attraction and resistance” of country living. On November 20th, he spoke candidly on the Good Trouble podcast with Nick Kyrgios.

When tennis star Nick Kyrgios remarked that McConaughey seems like someone who’s deeply connected to his roots and inquired about his feelings after returning to his home state, “Home, for me, is where a walk feels like a mile. An hour passes as 60 minutes,” the actor from Interstellar replied.

Because his job often takes up a lot of his time and energy, he tends to run ahead of schedule in everyday life. He further explained, “I feel like I’m right on time when it comes to relationships, work – I move at my own speed, my own rhythm through life.

The Academy Award winner has spent years living in Los Angeles aka Hollywood where he was the face of hit rom-coms including How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, The Wedding Planner, Failure To Launch, and Fool’s Gold. But decided to move back to Texas a few years after his wedding to Alves.

The actor shared that he had agreed with his wife to remain in one place until he received an acting job offer that allowed him to move beyond being stereotyped as a romantic comedy actor. “I told Alves I wouldn’t return to work unless I was given roles I was excited about,” he remembered saying at the time.

In the end, he broke free from his conventional persona by starring in a diverse range of movies, including genre-blending films, and garnered an Oscar for his remarkable portrayal in Dallas Buyers Club in 2013. The Wolf of Wall Street and Interstellar are among his most acclaimed performances to this day.

Even though their initial reason for settling in Texas had been fulfilled, this couple chose to remain in the state and have since raised three kids there – sons Levi, aged 16, Livingston, aged 11, and a daughter named Vida, who is 14 years old.

McConaughey enjoys living in Austin, a liberal city within a conservative state. He appreciates the contrast between the two, finding the blend of traditional values and progressive ideals intriguing. He likened it to a unique mix of blueberry and tomato soup that Texas offers – a combination of the red (conservative) and the blue (liberal).
