‘Double-Mindedness At Its Finest’: Deion Sanders Reflects On 1997 Suicidal Attempt And Thing That Saved Him

As a dedicated follower of Deion Sanders‘ inspiring journey, I find myself continually amazed by his resilience and strength. His recent revelation about his suicide attempt serves as a poignant reminder that even those who seem to have it all can struggle with dark times.

Deion Sanders, known for his years in the limelight, both as a professional baseball player and currently serving as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, isn’t immune to tough times. Reflecting on challenging phases in his life, Sanders has shared that he once contemplated taking his own life.

The discussion came forth when multi-Grammy Award-winning singer Kirk Franklin made an appearance on Deion and Rocsi Diaz’s talk show, We Got Time Today.

In the course of their conversation, Deion admitted that Kirk Franklin’s music played a crucial role in turning his life around.

The head coach implied that many churchgoers hadn’t been entirely honest with him, giving the impression that everyone was without fault or imperfection – a belief he later came to question.

He then went on to mention that when he listened to Kirk Franklin’s music, he found himself.

Discussing his suicide attempt, Franklin explained that he had been planning to drive his car off the road and take his own life.

Yet, it was during this time that he was tuned into the Conquerors’ tunes. He commented, “It epitomized the pinnacle of indecisiveness.

Later, Deion shared how he believed God had preserved his life when he veered his car off the road, and further stated that Franklin’s music served as a source of inspiration for him to regain his strength.

1997 saw an incident involving Deion, where he tried to navigate his Mercedes towards the edge of a cliff following a baseball game with the Cincinnati Reds. The cliff stood roughly 30 to 40 feet tall. (For those who are not aware)

Luckily, the athlete avoided any injuries during the event. However, he faced a challenging time personally, as he was dealing with the fallout from his first divorce and the fear of potentially losing custody of his kids.
