Why Did Modern Family’s Mitch and Cam Spinoff Never Happen? Find Out Here

As a lifestyle expert who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of television and its impact on society, I find myself deeply saddened by the news of the rejected Modern Family spinoff featuring Eric Stonestreet’s character Cameron Tucker and Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Mitchell Pritchett.

Eric Stonestreet has shared that a planned spin-off focusing on his character Cameron Tucker, alongside Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Mitchell Pritchett, has been turned down. Over the course of 11 seasons, Stonestreet was a beloved cast member in the groundbreaking series.

The plot was proposed to pick up where the TV show’s ending in Missouri (year 2020) left off, but unfortunately, ABC declined it, which left those involved feeling disheartened. In a more extensive conversation with Graham Bensinger, Stonestreet discussed this topic further.

Stonestreet expressed that the script was “very good,” further explaining, “They declined. They simply stated, ‘We don’t wish to proceed with it.’ I believe it affected Jesse’s and my feelings, as well as Chris Lloyd’s.

He believed they might have been perceived as “the veterans,” which he found somewhat disheartening. Stonestreet further commented, “Jesse and I may have felt like they looked at us as the old-timers or something along those lines, which didn’t seem fitting to continue those characters. It was a little disappointing. However, business decisions are not ours to make.

Despite acknowledging the network’s hesitations about diluting the franchise, Stonestreet argued that the opportunity for a spinoff might have passed, asserting that “they’ve had their moment”.

Stonestreet stated, “It would have been wonderful if ABC had agreed, ‘Let’s proceed.’ I believe we’d be filming it right now.” Nevertheless, he proposed the concept of a Modern Family Christmas special for potential future work, hinting at a discussion that may have transpired.
