As a lifestyle expert, I find Nelly Furtado‘s story of meeting her childhood crush, Mark Wahlberg, to be both amusing and relatable. It’s fascinating how our adolescent crushes can shape our experiences, even when we least expect it. Nelly’s tale serves as a reminder that sometimes, our dreams can turn into nightmares, but it’s the way we handle these situations that truly define us.

Nelly Furtado met her childhood hero, but the dream turned into a nightmare! During her appearance on the Handsome podcast, the Eat Your Man singer shared the embarrassing story of her first meeting with her childhood crush, Mark Wahlberg.

At around 13 or 14 years old, she displayed a poster of Mark Wahlberg from his Calvin Klein campaign. She confessed, chuckling, “I had a thing for Marky Mark when he was really into Calvins.” She further mentioned, “He was my initial celebrity crush.

Following the success of her debut album Whoa, Nelly!, which earned her a Grammy, she was invited to appear as a guest star in the movie version of the Max Payne video game series. This offered her an exciting chance to interact with the film’s leading actor.

Regarding the scene Nelly portrayed, she disclosed that her character needed to exhibit anger towards the actor playing Ted, as his character was held accountable for her husband’s demise. “I found myself in the scene, it was a fictional funeral gathering, there were numerous extras present, a large crowd indeed, and I had limited acting experience beforehand,” she reminisced. “However, I was feeling the weight of the situation.

In the given scene, Nelly clarified that Wahlberg was meant to enter, and her role was to slap him. At this stage in her career, the artist known for Say It Right had only made minor acting appearances in films or TV shows, all related to singing. Consequently, she was unaware of the appropriate rules and etiquette for acting.

She, being inexperienced as a performer, primarily a singer rather than an actor, mistakenly believed she could deliver some facial slaps for practice. When the director called “action,” she indeed struck the fellow actor forcefully across the face several times, without holding back.

In a reminiscence, she recounted, “Whapaw, whapaw!” was the sound as Wahlberg’s face turned rosy, and she admitted that he exhibited such kindness by neither interrupting nor hinting that she shouldn’t strike him. Amidst this peculiar scenario, she found herself playfully hitting Mark Wahlberg. Meanwhile, her 14-year-old self exclaimed in astonishment, “Oh my God!” Nelly further shared how she barely managed to carry on with the scene but somehow pulled it off successfully.
