As a lifestyle expert with a keen interest in both films and culinary adventures, I must say that Demi Moore’s latest role in “The Substance” is a testament to her fearless approach to acting. Her resilience and ability to handle even the most gruesome scenes, as evidenced by her experiences with surgeries and births, is truly commendable. However, it seems that Dennis Quaid’s shrimp-eating scene was a step too far, even for someone as unfazed as Moore.
Scream queen Demi Moore surprised the audience with her performance in the latest body horror film The Substance. However, stepping into the gory genre came with its own set of challenges and few turned out “nauseating” for her. During her interview with The Los Angeles Times in the Actress Roundtable panel, Moore talked about shooting a gross scene for the film.
The actress from the show Ghost stated that she’s generally unfazed by things that might make others queasy. She explained, “I’ve witnessed multiple surgeries and have assisted at thirteen births, including two C-sections. So, it’s safe to say I’m not easily disgusted.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share my thoughts on the grisly scenes in The Substance. Despite her tough exterior, Moore admitted that one scene in particular left her feeling queasy. In her own words, “Just seeing Dennis Quaid chow down on those shrimp… Goodness gracious, it was nearly unbearable!” That’s quite a revelation, don’t you think?
At the gathering, there were actresses such as Cynthia Erivo from “Wicked”, Zoe Saldaña of “Emilia Perez”, Saoirse Ronan from “The Outrun”, Danielle Deadwyler of “The Piano Lesson”, and Kate Winslet from “Lee”. After listening to Moore’s story, they all added their thoughts.
Ronan concurred with the actress from “The Decent Proposal” about how disturbing that specific scene in the movie was, as she too found it unsettling when viewing it. In an unexpected moment, the “Little Women” actress admitted to having impulses to watch a body horror film while enjoying her Thai cuisine. However, she had to halt her viewing after just a few minutes into the film.
In the midst of watching a movie called “The Substance,” she paused for about 10 minutes and then saw him eating shrimp. At that moment, she said something like, “I’ll briefly keep an eye on Lee, and then I’ll return to the movie.” She continued, “I couldn’t continue watching it.” Asked whether the character Harvey was named after filmmaker Harvey Weinstein, Moore responded by saying that the director would be the best person to answer this question, but she did mention that the decision to name him Harvey was intentional.
During a panel discussion, Moore shared that she was previously thought to be cast as Elphaba for an unreleased Wicked film. However, it was Erivo who ultimately played the lead green-skinned witch in the most recent movie version of the Broadway musical, under the direction of John M. Chu, who is also known for Crazy Rich Asians.
