As a long-time fan of the DC Universe, I couldn’t be more thrilled about the direction James Gunn is taking our beloved characters. The trailer for ‘Superman’ was nothing short of spectacular, and now we have ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ to look forward to in 2026!
Just a few days past, the debut trailer for ‘Superman’ hit the screens, and it’s sparked quite favorable responses. The upcoming film promises to resurrect the timeless Superman character, but with James Gunn’s distinctive flair.
However, fans are equally intrigued about the upcoming developments within the DC Universe since the completion of one project signals the imminent arrival of a brand-new DCU.
‘In the DC Universe, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ will serve as the second significant feature film. With James Gunn at the helm, there’s a clear ambition to establish a robust and esteemed universe. Based on his statements, it seems we can anticipate something truly spectacular.’
According to Gunn, the project is highly commended, and whispers indicate that the screenplay evokes strong emotions with a profound, touching narrative. This resonates with the source comic, renowned as one of the finest Supergirl tales in existence.
James Gunn shared with Omelete that he decided to make ‘Supergirl’ the follow-up to ‘Superman’ since the script was exceptionally impressive.
As a game enthusiast diving into scriptwriting, I wasn’t exactly anticipating Supergirl as the sequel we’d produce next, but when Ana [Nogueira] crafted such an exceptional script, it became clear we had something special on our hands. We then brought in a director who matched the caliber of the story, and now, given its potential after Superman, this film is our choice for the follow-up. Other scripts have been written, but none compared to this one’s brilliance. Keeping up the momentum, we remain committed to quality over quantity in every venture we undertake. The pursuit of excellence is more crucial than crafting an epic, sweeping narrative.
Gunn elaborated on his criteria for greenlighting movies at DC Studios. Essentially, he emphasized that the central narrative is paramount; they won’t solely focus on future strategies. Furthermore, no film will proceed without a fully developed script. If necessary, adjustments will be made. He also hinted that certain films and series have pleasantly exceeded their expectations.
I always prioritize the immediate situation over future possibilities; our focus lies solely on the current narrative. This is our guiding principle – we won’t approve films without completed scripts. While we do have a general roadmap for the universe’s events, if things don’t go as planned, we are flexible and open to change. We’ve even been surprised by some of our projects in the past.
