Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett Join Anne Hathaway Starrer Verity: Details

As a fervent admirer of literature-turned-cinema masterpieces, I must say that the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios’ production, Verity, has me absolutely thrilled! With Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, and Anne Hathaway gracing our screens, it’s a veritable dream team for any fan like myself.

Actors Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, and Anne Hathaway have been announced as the main cast for the movie adaptation of the book “Verity,” which is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios. The film will be directed by Michael Showalter, with a screenplay written by Nick Antosca.

According to the top-selling book at New York Times by Colleen Hoover, several screenplay versions have been written by Colleen Hoover, Lauren Levine, Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire. The movie is scheduled for a cinema premiere.

The team behind the project consists of Antosca and Alex Hedlund from Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick from Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway from Somewhere Pictures, Hoover from Heartbones Entertainment, and Stacy Sher from Shiny Penny. Dakota Johnson will serve as an executive producer alongside Lauren Levine from Heartbones Entertainment.

The narrative centers around Lowen Ashleigh, a writer in a tough spot financially, who lands an exceptional opportunity. Jeremy Crawford, husband of popular thriller author Verity Crawford who’s incapacitated after a strange incident, engages Ashleigh to complete the unfinished series books.

As Ashleigh steps onto the lavish Crawford property, doubts start to creep in about whether Verity’s writings are merely fictional, eerie confessions, or a sinister prediction from a mentally unstable individual.

In the movie, Hathaway is set to play Verity, and Hartnett will be cast as her husband. Simultaneously, Johnson will embody Ashleigh.

In 2018, Verity initially came out as a self-published book. It didn’t become widely known until 2021 through BookTok and Bookstagram. The year 2023 saw the gothic, psychosexual thriller sell an astounding 1 million copies all by itself.

Recently, Hoover has been experiencing a string of successes. Her latest No. 1 bestseller, “It Ends With Us,” has just been adapted into a movie. This film, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as the main characters, hit theaters on August 9th. The movie garnered an impressive $346 million at the global box office.

Recently, Johnson was spotted acting alongside Sean Penn in the film Daddio. Upcoming projects featuring her include Celine Song’s Materialists and Michael Angelo Covino’s Splitsville, both of which are eagerly awaited.

Hartnett has been quite busy and successful over the past couple of years. Lately, he played Ernest Lawrence in the Academy Award-winning Oppenheimer. He also made an appearance on the popular show The Bear and headlined this year’s summer release, Trap, directed by M. Night Shyamalan.
