‘Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’ Game Unveils Epic Captain America and Black Panther Team-Up, Plus New Black Panther Reveal!

As a long-time Marvel fan, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra”. With Amy Hennig at the helm, known for her exceptional work on the Uncharted series, this game promises to be an immersive and cinematic experience that brings the Marvel universe to life like never before.

Rise of Hydra” is an upcoming action-adventure video game based on World War II’s Occupied Paris setting. The narrative revolves around Captain America (Steve Rogers) and Black Panther (King Azzuri of Wakanda), who join forces to combat the evil Hydra terrorist organization.

The game is under development by Skydance New Media and will be released by Plaion in 2025. It’s inspired by the 2010 Marvel Comics series “Captain America & Black Panther: Flags of Our Fathers.

Amy Hennig, the creator and director of the game, recently chatted with Entertainment Weekly to reveal additional information about the game’s backdrop and the iconic collaboration depicted within it.

Amy Hennig revealed that the game’s setting provided them with ample creative liberty. This flexibility enabled them to portray a younger Steve Rogers, who was still navigating his way, rather than the seasoned Captain America depicted in films. Additionally, it offered an opportunity to introduce a new Black Panther character, hailing from 1943.

It led us to do a bunch of interesting things, one of which was to not only tell a story with a young Steve Rogers who’s still trying to find his feet, as opposed to the more seasoned guy that we’ve seen in a lot of the films. It also let us introduce a new Black Panther of 1943.

Our journey delved deep into everything I cherish, encompassing the captivating elements of World War II-era action-adventure films, iconic ensemble movies, and much more. There’s an abundance of mystery in our tale, numerous plot twists, complex characters, and diverse settings that make it enthralling.

One of the locations was revealed to EW and is featured below:

In 1943, Wakanda was secluded within its dense jungle, deliberately avoiding external conflicts. But circumstances compelled them to intervene for self-preservation. Initially, Captain America and Black Panther had disagreements, but eventually found themselves working together against common adversaries such as Hydra.

Additionally, she subtly suggested the existence of another super-soldier in Paris, without revealing specifics. The narrative of the game revolves around an escalating danger that propels the characters.

Currently, Wakanda remains secluded within an impassable forest as a means of self-protection, avoiding external entanglements. However, certain occurrences force them into confrontations they never sought. They must defend their territory and assets. The globe is rapidly shrinking. As of now, no satellites are in operation, but it won’t be long before they are. Aircraft can be brought down if they attempt to enter Wakandan airspace, but for how long can they remain concealed?

As a gamer immersed in this captivating world, I’ll have the unique opportunity to experience the narrative unfold from four distinct perspectives. Among these, I’ll find myself stepping into the boots of three notable characters: Gabriel Jones, an American soldier and marksman, Captain America, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy operating in Paris.

Among the other characters, you’ll find Julie, an essential figure in the French Resistance, and Howard Stark, portrayed by Joel Johnstone. Each character boasts unique abilities that gamers will employ at various stages throughout the game.

Hennig aspires to create an authentic and engaging experience in ‘Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’, despite its fantastical elements. The goal is to achieve such high-quality visuals that players will forget they’re playing a game, instead feeling like they’re watching a Marvel film unfold before their eyes.

Based on her background with ‘Uncharted,’ she aims that the game will provide an exhilarating experience not only for the players but also for spectators. Her intention is to deliver a fresh, movie-like encounter featuring Marvel characters and narratives to fans.

In our case, everything is computer-generated, which means we can become detached from reality very easily. Even films sometimes fall into this pitfall by overusing CG effects; when there’s too much of it, it becomes difficult to discern where the ground lies. Our aim was to achieve a high level of visual realism so that you wouldn’t realize you’re playing a game. Instead, it should seem as if you’re watching an exceptional Marvel film or TV show, but with you controlling the action.
