Cynthia Erivo Reveals Grueling Routine And Minimal Sleep While Filming Wicked

As a lifestyle expert with a deep appreciation for resilience and dedication, I am nothing short of astounded by Cynthia Erivo‘s commitment to her craft while filming Wicked. Her journey is a testament to the power of mental fortitude and physical stamina.

During a conversation with Kristen Bell at the Academy Museum, Cynthia Erivo discussed the tough physical and mental challenges she experienced while filming Wicked. She explained how dedicated she was to her role, often working for extended periods, performing difficult stunts, and getting by on little rest.

Erivo openly discussed her dedication to challenging herself both physically and mentally, stating, “I deliberately seek out activities that demand my physical exertion, along with mental engagement. This is because I strongly feel that our body and mind are deeply interconnected.

One intriguing tidbit Cynthia Erivo disclosed was her sleeping pattern during filming. On average, she managed only three hours of sleep per night. Her busy day started with a two-hour workout at dawn, followed by spending two hours in makeup before her 5 a.m. call to set.

Her busy routine was essential for her role’s physical aspects, as she explained: “At times, it’s the body dictating to the mind, while other times it’s the mind guiding the body.” She further emphasized that she is a highly active individual, requiring both mental and physical exertion to be fully utilized.

A significant portion of Cynthia’s preparations was dedicated to enhancing her physical prowess for the aerial sequences in Wicked. This seasoned performer openly acknowledged her lack of expertise in flying, yet was resolute in accepting the task head-on.

She stated, “I’d never experienced flight before, but the desire was there within me.” She also mentioned that it’s essential for the center to be robust since the cables will transport a person from one location to another.

Erivo collaborated extensively with her stunt coordinator, Jo McLaren, in getting ready for these action sequences. She explained the demanding physical exertion involved, mentioning that when they perform a loop-to-loop maneuver (a large loop), she must maneuver herself over and around without her legs dragging behind. Despite its challenges, Erivo was determined to handle the stunts personally. “Jo inquired, ‘Are you absolutely sure about taking on all of this?’ To which I replied, ‘Yes.’
