The ‘Batman Forever’ Retro Toy Collection Has Been Revealed and We Love It

As a child of the ’90s, I vividly remember the excitement that surrounded the release of Batman Forever. The bright colors, the over-the-top performances, and the iconic toys that graced our shelves were a perfect blend of nostalgia and childhood wonder. So, you can imagine my delight when I heard about the upcoming retro toy line collection inspired by this beloved film.

1995 saw the arrival of Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever, a film often remembered as one of the poorest adaptations of Batman in cinema history. Although Batman & Robin, released later, is considered worse, Batman Forever was still a significant departure and letdown compared to Burton’s films. Despite its flaws, it wasn’t as bad as some might think.

It’s clear that there’s still a buzz surrounding this movie, and here’s something exciting for fellow gamers like me: In 2025, we’re getting an exclusive lineup of retro toys, inspired by the iconic film as part of its 30th anniversary! Can’t wait to add these collector’s items to my gaming gear!

According to our exclusive findings from ScreenRant, the upcoming toy collection is set to launch as part of the DC Comics Retro Collection and will hit stores in January 2025. Here’s everything you should know about this exciting release!

According to an exclusive report, this collection will feature a Batmobile setup along with action figures representing Batman, Robin portrayed by Chris O’Donnell, and the villain Two-Face, played by Tommy Lee Jones. Here are the pictures (provided by ScreenRant) and the official descriptions:

Journey straight into the core of Gotham City with the BATMAN FOREVER Batmobile + Batman collector’s edition, an essential item for fans of the legendary Batman series. This limited edition set includes a magnificent 20-inch Batmobile, complete with a distinctive transparent frame that highlights its intricate interior details and authentic film design.

With a vintage 5-inch Batman action figure reminiscent of Val Kilmer’s iconic role as the Caped Crusader, this collection beautifully honors his portrayal of the Dark Knight. The Batmobile is meticulously designed to harmonize flawlessly with the provided unique 4-inch Batman figure, boosting its presentation and playworthiness. Whether you’re recreating thrilling battles or showcasing their timeless packaging on your shelves, the Batmobile’s imposing size and careful craftsmanship make it a remarkable addition to any collection.

Immerse yourself in nostalgia by collecting Retro Action Figures from the DC Comics Vintage Series. Each 5-inch figure pays homage to the timeless Batman movie franchise, featuring iconic characters like Batman (Val Kilmer), Robin (Chris O’Donnell), Two Face (Tommy Lee Jones) and The Riddler (Jim Carrey).

As a passionate gamer, I’ve got to say, these figures are meticulously crafted to capture the essence and aesthetic of the iconic ’90s Batman films. They’re more than just toys; they’re treasures designed especially for collectors like us. The retro packaging is a cherry on top, fitting snugly into any collector’s display cabinet. And here’s the best part – each figure stands at 5-inches tall, making them not only valuable collectibles but also fun to play with during downtime!

As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share some inside scoop on the upcoming toy line that’s being rolled out by none other than Spin Master! Recently, I had the privilege of chatting with Mark Morse, a key figure from the company, and here are the juicy details he spilled:

What are your feelings about Batman Forever three decades after its release?

Mark Morse: I was thrilled when it debuted. I was an ardent admirer of the Tim Burton/Michael Keaton films, and although I was somewhat disheartened since we wouldn’t be getting a third installment from that duo, I eagerly anticipated seeing what Joel Schumacher would bring to the franchise.

Initially, considering his work on “Lost Boys” and “Flatliners,” which were quite atmospheric, I anticipated a continuation of that moody style, potentially leading the series into an even darker realm compared to Burton’s version. However, what was presented fell short of my expectations. Instead, it offered bright colors, exaggerated cartoonish elements, and excessive performances that seemed more focused on visual appeal rather than creating a dark atmosphere.

While Burton drew inspiration from the grittier, somber portrayals of the Batman character that emerged from the comics during the mid-80s, Schumacher found his muse in the 1966 television series and its humorous slant – bordering on parody.

In the time that has passed since then, I’ve grown to understand and value its unique qualities. However, many were taken aback by it, as they anticipated a follow-up to the initial two films. Nevertheless, it turned out to be an immense success and was hugely popular among younger audiences. This is why I believe the toys associated with the movie still hold such a strong allure.

How did the opportunity come about to adapt the Batman Forever icons and hero vehicle?

Mark Morse: We collaborate closely with our retail partners to create captivating product lines that they can offer to their consumers. In this particular case, the Target buyer was particularly fond of the initial Batman Forever toy collection from the mid-90s. I believe it was this series that left a lasting impression on him – similar to how the original Kenner Star Wars line resonated with my generation.

He held a deep affection for those toys and inquired if we could somehow revive the series, to rekindle the nostalgia and evoke the sentiment of that era. Throughout my professional journey, I’ve been an ardent supporter of retro-inspired toy design and have implemented comparable projects at other organizations – however, nothing on this scale or for a brand as renowned as Batman and DC Comics has been undertaken before.

We found the potential intriguing and suggested expanding the concept beyond merely Batman Forever. Instead, we aimed to create a genuine throwback series, which we planned to revamp multiple times annually, featuring diverse DC characters. Our collaborators at Target showed enthusiasm, while Warner Bros. partners were extremely encouraging.

In contrast, the “Batman Forever” collection veers slightly towards a fresh take on the original series, but upcoming waves promise to introduce films and characters yet unseen by fans. I’m confident they’ll be thrilled with what awaits them.
