The news that Hayley Atwell is reprising her role as Peggy Carter in Avengers: Doomsday has sent shockwaves of joy through the hearts of fans like me. It’s been far too long since we last saw our beloved Agent Carter, and the prospect of her once again teaming up with Captain America is simply too much to bear!
It’s been announced that Hayley Atwell will reprise her role as Peggy Carter for the upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, given the speculation about Chris Evans potentially reprising his role as Steve Rogers in the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed project.
It’s been confirmed through Deadline’s sources that Hayley Atwell is anticipated to reprise her role as Agent Carter in Marvel Studios’ eagerly awaited film. This upcoming movie, slated for a May 1, 2026 release, is being produced by Marvel president Kevin Feige. Although Marvel has yet to disclose specific plot details, the storyline of this movie is rumored to be based on the Avengers: Doomsday saga, with Doctor Doom serving as the primary antagonist, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr.
In the finale of Avengers: Endgame, Peggy Carter, portrayed by Atwell, was last seen on the silver screen sharing a heartfelt reunion with Captain America, played by Evans. This was after Captain America traveled through time to fulfill his pledge and dance with her.
In the previous Avengers film, Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Tony Stark (Iron Man), successfully prevented Thanos from destroying the universe, even though Thanos had some unusual trinkets. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2024, it was unveiled that the actor who played Iron Man would be portraying Doctor Doom in future projects.
Following 2021, rumors emerged about Evans and Atwell potentially returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a standalone movie; however, these plans were adjusted, and it has been officially confirmed that they will be reprising their memorable characters in the upcoming Avengers film instead.
In Avengers: Doomsday, we see an impressive ensemble of stars, such as Pedro Pascal stepping into Reed Richards’ shoes, Vanessa Kirby becoming Sue Storm, Johnny Storm played by Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach portraying Ben Grimm from the Fantastic Four. The Thunderbolts are also prominently featured in this movie. Some familiar faces reappear too; Sebastian Stan resumes his role as Bucky Barnes, while Florence Pugh assumes the character of Yelena Belova (formerly Black Widow).
In the upcoming movie “Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning,” set to hit theaters in May 2025, Hayley Atwell reprises her character of Grace alongside Tom Cruise once more.
