27th Developer Notes: 1.5-Year Anniversary Update News

As a long-time gamer and BrownDust 2 enthusiast, I must say that today’s developer notes have left me with a mix of emotions. On one hand, it’s exciting to see the game’s creators are listening to their players and making improvements based on feedback. But on the other hand, I can’t help but feel a little impatient, like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.

Hello. This is Brown Dust 2 PD Jun-hee Lee.

Did you find the 1.5-Year Anniversary show entertaining?

Due to being occupied with preparations, I unfortunately couldn’t catch the real-time broadcast of our 1.5-year Anniversary celebration which was aired simultaneously in Japan and Taiwan. Instead, I will be catching up on the recording later.

In this Technical Update, we will strive to provide the essential details as accurately as feasible, directly from the source material. Additionally, we’ll delve deeper into topics that weren’t covered during the live stream.

New Event Pack: Memory’s Edge (December 17th)

We’re excited to present the 2024 Winter Edition update for our next event – introducing “Memory’s Edge”! This time around, we’ve set the stage in a captivating cyberpunk world. If you recall last year’s winter event, Nightmare Winter, it too was set against a backdrop of the future. In this new event pack, we’ve dived even deeper into our forward-thinking vision, inviting you on an immersive journey through a complete cyberpunk narrative.

This year, I’m thrilled to embark on the “Memories Edge” Event Pack, following the chilling events of “Nightmare Winter.” However, unlike last time, we’ll be navigating a brand-new urban landscape – the captivating Pandora City!

In the chilling tale of Nightmare Winter, Rou’s selfless act led to Morpeah’s tragic end. Yet, mysteriously, she reappeared in the winding lanes of Pandora City, lacking any memory of her former life. One fateful day, as she lay helpless on the ground, Loen happened upon her and saved her from certain peril. Subsequently, Morpeah found employment at a tavern known as Vorpal Rabbit, where she worked alongside her savior, Loen.

One day, Morpeah learns that Loen’s birthday is approaching. As a result, she decides to venture into a perilous location to find a gift for her friend. She eventually finds herself in the midst of the cleaners, ominous beings known to inhabit Sector 4, the deserted part of the city. Hearing about Morpeah’s predicament, Loen rushes to Sector 4 to save her friend.

New Seasonal Event: Goodbye Freedom (December 17th)

This four-week celebration, centered around one idea, is approaching as we enter winter. Its official name is “Goodbye Freedom.

This seasonal event marks the start of changes in story presentation.
A lot of you have mentioned the problem regarding the frequency of the illustration’s exposure.
We agreed with the argument that there was no point in having a good illustration if it didn’t have a lot of exposure in the game.
So, the presentation of seasonal event stories will take a visual novel format with conversations between the illustrations.

The first part of Goodbye Freedom, opening in the first week, is subtitled Shaded Heart.
The subheading of the second part, opening in the third week, is Overheat, which is also the name of Levia’s costume.

In this seasonal occasion called “Goodbye Freedom,” you’ll discover a narrative that functions as a precursor to the winter event series, “Memories Edge.” This captivating tale delves into the backstory of our protagonists, Levia and Luvencia, who are key characters in “Memories Edge.” It offers insight into their origins and reveals what led them to the city.

We hope you enjoy the newly introduced visual novel-style seasonal event story.

Introduction to the Characters

Celebrity Bunny Loen

Initially, the character introduced is Loen, who gained much notice for his unique “Reverse Bunny” outfit. This costume, known as Celebrity Bunny, is now available as a fresh Limited Edition pickup. The skillset of Celebrity Bunny Loen revolves around inflicting substantial damage on numerous enemies in a broad range.

Daydream Bunny Morpeah

Up next, we introduce Morpeah, the charismatic contender from our popularity poll! Morpeah contrasts greatly with Eclipse in terms of character traits. Her costume is aptly named Daydream Bunny, a stark contrast to Nightmare Bunny, which is associated with another character. The Daydream Bunny outfit boasts a white color scheme, making it unique among other bunny costumes. As the winner of the popularity vote, you can acquire 6 copies of this costume for free, allowing you to fully upgrade it. Daydream Bunny Morpeah has a skillset that enables her to summon friendly creatures, much like the Beach Vacation costume.

Overheat Levia

Introducing Overheat Levia, a character renowned for solving problems: Her nickname “Overheat” comes from the fact that her mechanical arm tends to overheat during combat, as per her backstory.
In combat, Overheat Levia specializes in inflicting greater damage on enemies who are weakened or vulnerable.

Wild Dog LuvenciaHere is Luvencia, another troubleshooter who forms a duo with Levia.
Appearing as a top-notch problem solver, Luvencia over here is also an incredible battle enthusiast.
If Levia is the brain of the duo, then Luvencia could be considered the heart.
Wild Dog Luvencia has a skill concept that deals more powerful damage depending on the number of chains applied to the enemy.

???

To wrap things up, many of you have been eagerly waiting to find out about her, since we haven’t shared any details before. But, please note, she won’t be playable. Instead, she will be connected to Loen and is expected to make a significant appearance in the storyline of our upcoming seasonal event.

Next, we have details regarding the pickup for December.

During the initial week of this two-part seasonal event, a returning monster will emerge. By the third week, a fresh monster will make its entrance.

[Rerun] Fiend Hunter: Talos (Wind)
Fiend from Goodbye Freedom – Shaded Heart (December 17th)

In a new appearance, Talos is now imbued with the power of the Wind. The taller the structure built upon the monster, the greater the potential for inflicting harm.

New Character Introduction: Human TYPE-B01 (Light), a Modified Fiend Hunter from the Goodbye Freedom series, debuted on January 2nd with an Overheat ability.

The Altered Human TYPE-B01 presents as a creature with a Light nature. While its behavioral patterns are rather straightforward, it possesses a combat ability that inflicts considerable harm in battles.

Mini-Game: Pandora Escape

Earlier, I discussed a path ahead which focused on developing content that could bring enjoyment without it being compulsory.

I believe this mini-game will be the first example of that.
Let me introduce you to Pandora Escape.

As a devoted enthusiast, let me share my perspective on Pandora Escape – an exhilarating blend of survival action and roguelike mini-games! Upon embarking on this adventure, you’ll find yourself embroiled in fierce combat with relentless adversaries. With each stage lasting between 5 to 10 minutes, it’s up to you, the player, to conquer them one by one as you advance. As you progress, you’ll gather valuable skills and mold your character into a formidable force, preparing for the ultimate showdown against the final boss in an epic battle!

Inside the game, you’ll find a unique currency specific to Pandora Escape. You can utilize this currency to enhance your character’s abilities, helping you tackle tougher opponents.

By the end of three weeks, a new character named Luvencia, who plays differently than others, will join the game. This will trigger the Challenge Mode, where you can strive to outdo other players by vanquishing an impressive number of monsters.

In the game, you don’t earn the in-game currency through gameplay. Instead, you can secure My Room decorations by completing specific levels.

New Content: Glupy Diner

Alright, buddy! Let’s dive into the world of Glupy Diner, a cool new game feature where you get to hang out with some awesome characters as a restaurant manager. This bad boy is going to be part of an exciting new pack that’s packed with fresh features, so let me break it down for ya:

Glupy Diner: Restaurant Part

Initially, you’ll find yourself at a restaurant that appears somewhat bare due to locked facilities. To unlock these areas and bring characters on board, you’ll need the starting currency. As you do this, the restaurant will expand, leading to level ups. This growth not only provides a sense of achievement but also boosts your settlement rewards from managing the restaurant. These rewards can accumulate for 24 hours, with the amount increasing based on the restaurant’s level and the time spent idling.

It typically takes about 100 days for players to advance to the last level.

In our Glupy Diner, growth is progressive and straightforward, without any extra ornamental features at present. However, we’re looking forward to enhancing the ambiance with potential decorative elements in the future. For now, let’s have fun exploring this simple yet captivating journey of consistent daily growth!

Glupy Diner: Regular Guests, Fated Guests

The second point involves welcoming some distinguished visitors.

As a gamer, let me remind you not to overlook those crucial characters, for they carry tales that matter most. Interacting with them initiates fascinating dialogues.

In this interactive experience, the conversation sequences resemble those found in graphic novels, featuring vivid illustrations. As the restaurant’s proprietor, you interact one-on-one with visitors who are destined to arrive, role-playing from your own perspective. Upon finishing the dialogue segment, you will have the opportunity to acquire contact details.

Once you’ve got in touch with them, you can carry on chatting with those characters via a messaging service known as Glutalk.

The narrative of Glupy Diner is told from a personal point of view, a task that was novel for our storytellers. Great care and attention were put into creating this authentic first-person narrative. To bring it to life, we leveraged the parallel universe concept found in Brown Dust 2. Inside the Glupy Diner Pack, players assume the role of the “Master.

While we stick to the third-person narrative for the primary story, we won’t be incorporating the characters from it as predestined visitors wearing their regular attire. Instead, these predestined visitors will don costumes inspired by a parallel universe.

Firstly, you’ll meet Nebris, our latest team member introduced in Character Pack 7.

Initially, we aimed to introduce numerous characters simultaneously, but crafting top-notch narratives for each proved difficult. Consequently, we’ve chosen to prioritize quality over quantity in the interim. Continuing to deliver a large number of updates all at once remains challenging. However, rest assured that we will continue to unveil them gradually while maintaining our high standards of quality.

Regrettably, we couldn’t include voiceovers this time because of scheduling issues. However, we intend to incorporate them gradually as our plans progress, so do keep an eye on us for a little while longer.

The upcoming topic I’d like to share is about the unique interaction with a fated guest. With Glutalk (mentioned earlier), once you acquire their contact, you can arrange a meeting event. You can hold up to three of these events daily, and the count resets each day. Engaging in a meeting event boosts your Affinity by 1 and may reward you with specific items. Your Affinity can reach a maximum of 10 points. The first restaurant-based meeting event won’t consume any of your daily events, enabling you to increase your Affinity to the maximum (10) within just three days.

Upgrading Affinity to 10 unlocks a unique feature, which you’ll find displayed on your main interface. This change is expected to bring delight to a significant number of users.

On December 17th, I’ll be lucky enough to host Nebris as a destined guest. And on January 2nd, Morpeah and Loen will join me too, also as destined guests. Interestingly, one of my costumes might pop up as a destined guest, but only if I haven’t already made contact with it. So, if three destined guests are updated, I can make contact with all the upcoming destined guests over a span of three days!

Japanese Voiceover Update

At last, I’ve got some fantastic news for fellow gamers who appreciate a bit of Japanese flair! The character packs from 1 to 5 will now feature updated full Japanese voiceovers. That means, we’re all set to immerse ourselves in not just Korean, but also perfectly dubbed Japanese dialogues. I apologize for the wait, but trust me, it was worth it! Let’s dive back into the game with a fresh, authentic Japanese experience.

In this latest update for Glupy Diner, a new first-person romance story has been introduced, causing adjustments to certain sections of the original narrative. Some players pointed out that specific romantic pairings or scenes featuring a particular female character expressing strong affection towards another male character in specific plots were distracting. We concur with this feedback and aim to enhance the relevant content.

12 ★5 costumes are getting some tweaks to bring them in line with their intended roles, keeping the existing roles intact without changing skill effects. Costumes that were released a while back might need some performance-related adjustments. We’ll keep an eye on this and make necessary changes as needed.

Moreover, the HP cap applied to HP-ratio skills will increase from 20,000 to 30,000.

The buffed costumes and the content of their enhancements are as follows.

1. Anastasia – Gentle Maid
– Increase in Crit DMG buff stats

2. Anastasia – Fire Graffiti
– Increase in Crit DMG buff stats, cooldown reduction

3. Elise – Lovely Lady
– Increase in DMG

4. Elise – Code Name O
– Increase in DMG

5. Angelica – Neon Savior
– DOT DMG can stack; increase in HP ratio cap

6. Angelica – Pool Party
Increase in HP ratio cap

7. Angelica – The Fallen
– Increase in DMG and HP ratio cap

8. Glacia – Disciplinary Committee
– Decrease in cooldown, increase in DMG

9. Seir – Demon’s Daughter
– Decrease in SP consumption

10. Ventana – Snow White
– Increase in Conditional DMG

11. Olstein – Sage of Blue Clouds
– Increase in hit counts for multi-hit attacks

12. Lecliss – Killer Doll
– Decrease in SP consumption

Skill Cutscene Modification Plans
In a previous Developer Note, we mentioned the modification plan for existing skill cutscenes.
Since it is scheduled to take place in the first quarter following the 1.5-year anniversary update,
we would like to inform the anticipating players in advance about the direction of the changes.
As for Piercing Magic Bow Eleaneer, we will improve the presentation by adding a background or removing the doll, among other enhancements.
We also hope to enlarge her standing illustration’s chest area to align her figure with the skill cutscene.
Another aim is to adjust Night of Envy Levia’s cutscene and deal with Levia’s body shape matching issue.
We plan to adjust and match the standing illustration.
For Seal Snatcher Luvencia, we will adjust the presentation aspects of her side glances and camera movements.

Additionally, we’ll be modifying the outfit details of Yumi from Senran Kagura, a character whose underwear area has been a topic of discussion among players. After our collaboration ended, there were substantial requests for changes which we had to accommodate. Fortunately, after discussing our predicament with the IP holder, they agreed to our request. However, please note that these modifications will go through an additional review process, so it might take some time. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

Addition of Existing Characters’ Cutscenes

Here are the responses we’ve compiled from questions commonly asked during our developer-focused survey. We’ve also added some extra questions and their answers, which weren’t covered during the live broadcast due to time limitations. Each answer comes straight from the individuals responsible.

Regarding Character Design

Q1. Will we see characters with a wider range of body types, such as petite or younger characters, in the future?

Regarding Maps

Jayden: I understand your concern about the pace of updates. Our team is constantly working on new content, but we want to ensure that each update adds significant value to the game. We’ll strive to make improvements in terms of consistency without compromising quality.

Jong-won Seo: The narrative progression in the story seems swift considering the larger context, but due to our infrequent updates, the pace might seem aggravating. However, we are dedicated to delivering captivating updates regularly, so keep an eye out for more.

Sang-woo Shin: As the game progresses, we anticipate that the number of voice lines will grow organically.
Thank you for your input, and we’ll seriously consider these suggestions.

Q2. Although the background music is excellent, it can become repetitive due to the limited selection. Can more background music be added?
[e.g., adding a new battle theme]
Sang-woo Shin: Since the battle theme isn’t as diverse as the rest of our background music, it can feel repetitive.
We’re currently working on expanding the battle themes, not just for event packs but also for regular ones.
Your positive feedback about our music really energizes us. Thank you so much.

Q3. The soundtrack is fantastic. Can more genres (e.g., ballads, rock, etc.) be incorporated?
Sang-woo Shin: We believe a wide variety of genres, from traditional Korean music to cyberpunk pop, are already well-represented.
However, reimagining popular OSTs into different styles, such as a ballad version of a beloved track, is an interesting idea.
If t We acknowledge the importance of character theme songs, especially for new game modes.
Although essential BGMs are our main focus now, we’re excited about creating these themes in the future, thanks to our dedicated composers.

Regarding Battles
Q1. Is it possible to include beginner-friendly tutorials or guides due to the game’s high difficulty level?

Hyun-mu Seo: We understand that the unique battle strategies may seem intimidating for beginners, especially during the initial stages. To ease this learning curve, we’ll make extensive use of tooltips to break down complex terminology in a straightforward manner. For instance, we plan to simplify explanations for systems like the Chain system (e.g., hitting once builds 1 chain, each chain increases damage by 10%, chains reset at the end of the turn).

Addressing User Concerns and Improvements

Concerning issues with mistakes due to lack of skill and incorrect battle decisions, we acknowledge that our system designed to maintain fair gameplay may have unintentionally caused some hassles. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. At present, we are working on upgrading our battle engine to provide a more consistent gaming experience.

Regarding devices running at peak performance but encountering overheating and frame rate drops, we understand the problems and are actively working on optimizations to ensure smooth graphics while reducing heat production.

As we progress, our focus is not only on providing captivating content but also on enhancing stability to offer a more seamless gaming experience for all players.

In February next year, our plan is to regularly revise the primary storylines and align seasonal events with the overarching plot.

Previously, our stories were usually structured as a traditional, goal-oriented narrative with a strong male protagonist, but we’ve noticed that there was less emphasis on the characters’ everyday lives. To bridge this gap, we plan to make full use of the Glupy Diner’s Fated Guest System to enrich character interactions and present more detailed slice-of-life stories.

The focus of collaboration events should mainly revolve around generating enthusiasm and eagerness among participants by introducing popular anime or game characters within the BD2 universe, crafting fresh narratives for the players to savor. Rather than deciding the number of collaborations beforehand, it’s essential to prioritize creating an experience that resonates with and delights players.

We’re fully aware of the feedback highlighting the importance of enhancing the game’s core narrative and character development.

We’ll keep assessing partnership events meticulously to create experiences that players will find engaging and enjoyable.

To cater to users yearning for more growth resources, our goal is to keep supplying an abundance via events such as the one we recently held.

Apart from maintaining the tradition of seasonal events, we’ve decided to enhance their quality this time around. Instead of repetitive mini-games, we aim to provide more immersive and interactive ones. Additionally, we are incorporating visual novel-style dialogues in story presentations and expanding the story’s depth. Our goal is to deliver a more refined and engaging seasonal event experience.

With that, we will wrap up today’s notes with a gift.
