Open AI Releases Sora, the Text to Video Platform

As a seasoned researcher with a keen interest in artificial intelligence and its potential applications, I find myself intrigued by OpenAI’s latest offering – Sora Turbo. Having followed the evolution of AI models, it’s fascinating to witness this significant step towards simulating reality. It’s like watching a supercharged version of what we saw back in February, only faster and more powerful.

Open AI announces that Sora forms the base for AI capable of comprehending and replicating reality – a crucial advancement towards creating models able to interact with the physical world. This launch is part of OpenAI’s “shipmas” plan, which involves the rollout of new features, products, and demonstrations daily for 12 consecutive days, starting from December 5th.

The business has launched an upgraded variant of Sora, dubbed Sora Turbo, which is substantially quicker than the version unveiled in February. It’s now available for purchase separately on Sora.com exclusively for ChatGPT Plus and Pro subscribers.

A new interface for Sora

Users can generate videos up to 1080p resolution, up to 20 sec long, and in widescreen, vertical or square aspect ratios. You can bring your own assets to extend, remix, and blend, or generate entirely new content from text.

Sora has Featured and Recent feeds that are constantly updated with creations from the community.

According to Open AI, the current version of Sora they’re releasing comes with numerous restrictions. It frequently produces unrealistic physics and finds it challenging to handle intricate actions over extended periods. Despite Sora Turbo being significantly quicker than its February preview, they are continuously striving to develop the technology so that it becomes accessible for everyone financially.

They’re unveiling video creation technology now, allowing us time to delve into its potential uses and collaborate on establishing guidelines and protections so it can be employed ethically as the technology evolves.

All Sora-produced videos are tagged with C2PA metadata, ensuring they’re easily recognizable as originating from Sora. This labeling promotes transparency and enables verification of the source.

As a researcher, I’m working on a project aimed at preventing harmful forms of abuse, specifically child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes. Initially, we will limit the number of people who can upload content due to our launch, but as we continue to refine our strategies for mitigating deepfakes, we plan to expand this feature to more users.
