Microsoft’s Indiana Jones PlayStation Delay Sparks Mixed Reactions

As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions about Microsoft’s decision to bring ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’ to PlayStation 5 in spring 2025.

Discussions are abuzz among gamers due to Microsoft’s plan to roll out “Indiana Jones and the Great Circle” for PlayStation 5 in spring 2025, after its initial launch on Xbox and PC in December 2024. The head of Xbox studios, Matt Booty, stated that this delayed release strategy is as much about production choices as it is anything else.

Booty underscored that every game’s launch strategy is decided separately, taking multiple aspects into account. He pointed out that the PS5 version’s timing was impacted by the manufacturing schedule, with the priority being to offer a well-crafted experience for Xbox players initially. In an interview, he explained, ‘Our goal is to deliver an excellent gaming experience for our Xbox users first, and the delay between releases on PlayStation is as much about production planning as anything else.’

It’s intriguing to note that prior to Microsoft’s takeover of Bethesda, ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’ was apparently being developed by them. This leads one to wonder if a PlayStation 5 edition might have been part of the original plan.

In 2023, Microsoft clarified that it hadn’t removed any games from PlayStation following its acquisition of Bethesda, contrary to suggestions made by Redfall’s designer Harvey Smith, who implied that Microsoft would adopt a ‘no PlayStation 5’ policy post-acquisition.

Yet, Microsoft’s game release strategy has become adaptable, as titles such as ‘Sea of Thieves’, ‘Grounded’, ‘Hi-Fi Rush’, and ‘Pentiment’ are now playable on Nintendo and Sony systems. This change suggests a more open approach towards platform exclusivity.

With Indiana Jones now available on Gamepass, PC, and Xbox, what are your thoughts on it being released for PlayStation in a few months? Are you fine with this, waiting for the PlayStation version, or do you dislike that it’s a timed exclusive?

‘The game titled ‘Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’ has been warmly accepted. Eurogamer refers to it as ‘intelligent, entertaining, and truly reminiscent of Indiana Jones’. The game is lauded as an exceptional demonstration of stealth action that signifies a daring new phase for MachineGames.’

With Microsoft evaluating its approach to game releases title by title, gamers find themselves curious about which Xbox series could potentially be available on PlayStation in the future.
