Sony’s Spider-Man Universe Ends with ‘Kraven: The Hunter’ as Final Film According to Reports

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating the labyrinth of superhero universes, I must admit that Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) has been a rollercoaster ride that’s tested my reflexes and patience alike.

The Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) represents a series of movies centered around characters from Spider-Man comics published by Marvel, which Sony initiated in 2013. Their strategy involved developing spin-offs following ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2,’ such as the Venom film.

Following ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ falling short of expectations, Sony partnered with Marvel Studios to introduce Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), simultaneously working on establishing a standalone Venom universe.

The collection of movies under the banner of SSU includes ‘Venom’ series, which concluded with ‘Venom: The Last Dance,’ along with ‘Morbius,’ ‘Madame Web,’ and the forthcoming ‘Kraven the Hunter.’ Generally, these films have been met with negative feedback; ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web’ in particular were criticized heavily.

Currently, with Sony Pictures set to launch ‘Kraven the Hunter’, early predictions for its box office performance seem disappointing. Typically, such forecasts rely on factors like ticket sales before release and crucial indicators.

Although these predictions might not be absolutely correct every time, they tend to provide a dependable guideline. If a movie is predicted to make $30 million, it’s improbable that it will gross $250 million on its opening weekend; the actual earnings usually remain near the initial forecasts.

Initially, Sony was optimistic that ‘Kraven the Hunter’ would build upon the success of ‘Venom’, becoming the next blockbuster for the SSU. Yet, if initial predictions are accurate, ‘Kraven’ may instead tread a disheartening path similar to ‘Morbius’, or even worse, ‘Madame Web’.

The upcoming action movie is forecasted to make approximately $20-$25 million in its first weekend, which is quite low, especially considering it has a substantial budget of $130 million.

In addition, the film will only be available in a smaller number of cinemas since it’s set to premiere in approximately 1000 fewer theaters than both ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web.’ According to The Wrap’s recent report, Sony has spent an alarming amount of money attempting to establish Spider-Man’s universe without him, and if their information is accurate, then ‘Kraven the Hunter’ might be the final movie in this series.

According to a prominent talent representative, Sony is currently concentrating on the character of Spider-Man, with a Spider-Verse film underway and ‘Spider-Man: Noir’ series for Amazon garnering exceptional response from leaked set previews.

They’ve developed what they want to develop for now. It’s really about the next ‘Spider-Man’ film

Another Sony employee has shared that the company is currently prioritizing the upcoming Spider-Man film featuring Tom Holland, marking the beginning of a fresh trilogy within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

It was clear from the start of the promotional campaign for ‘Kraven the Hunter’ that the situation would be challenging. Even the film’s star, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and director J.C. Chandor pleaded with fans to watch the movie, hinting that if it garners enough support, we could witness ‘Kraven’s Last Hunt.’

If a significant number of us gather, there’s a chance we could bring Spider-Man into the Secret Six Universe. However, according to current assessments, ‘Kraven the Hunter’ may not fare well upon introduction, and the same goes for the Secret Six Universe itself.
