In 1974, McCartney initiated discussions with Asimov regarding their collaborative project while both were in New York. Since Asimov had a phobia of flying, he consented to meet up in the city. Initially, McCartney drafted a concise outline for the narrative, spanning roughly 400 words. Subsequently, Asimov developed this brief idea into a more elaborate version, approximately 1,800 words in length.

Over time, the idea for the story developed, and McCartney appeared enthusiastic about the potential. However, by early 1975, the project came to a halt. Although the concept was intriguing, McCartney never moved forward with the film production, leading Asimov to express disappointment over the slow progress.

The recently published book is the second installment in a series detailing Paul McCartney’s career, continuing from where the first volume left off, which focused on his life spanning 1969 to 1973.
