As an ardent admirer of Jamie Foxx, I have always been captivated by his electrifying performances and magnetic charm. However, his recent Netflix special, Jamie Foxx: What Had Happened Was…, took me on an emotional journey that transcended the realms of entertainment. The story he shared about his near-death experience with a stroke in April 2023 was nothing short of heart-wrenching and profoundly moving.

During his Netflix special titled “What Had Happened Was…”, Jamie Foxx shared a moving account of the emotional journey he experienced following a stroke that happened in April 2023.

Reflecting on the heart-wrenching event, I found myself choked up, dabbing away tears as I humbly pleaded, “Please, heavens above, guide me through this ordeal.” You see, just a few days ago, on April 11th, I was struck with an unbearable headache. In my moment of need, I asked for an aspirin, but it became evident that in such a critical situation, even the closest of companions are at a loss as to what action to take.

Later on, he disclosed that prior to obtaining an aspirin, he had to step outside and found himself unable to recollect the previous 20 days. Addressing the crowd, he explained that his companions transported him to a physician in Atlanta who administered a cortisone injection and subsequently sent him back home. However, his sister Deidre Dixon sensed that something was amiss.

Later on, he mentioned that his sister was the one who navigated through Atlanta, and along the way, they stumbled upon Piedmont Hospital. Interestingly, he hadn’t known anything about it prior, but his sister seemed to have a feeling that something unusual might be happening inside.

Jamie Foxx, who played in Django Unchained, revealed that while at the hospital, a physician informed his sibling that Foxx had a “bleed in the brain causing a stroke.” The doctor warned that if immediate surgery wasn’t performed, it could lead to Foxx’s death.

Foxx revealed that Dixon remained kneeling throughout the ordeal and stayed outside the operating room. He informed the audience that doctors had told his sister they were unsure of the stroke’s origin but were optimistic about Foxx’s potential recovery, although it was expected to be a challenging year for him. Foxx concluded, “And that’s exactly what happened, Atlanta. You got the story, and in a way, you saved my life.

Feeling emotional, he reminisced about the moment he awoke to find himself seated in a wheelchair, puzzled about how he’d ended up there. It was his friend Dave who explained that he had suffered a stroke and urged him not to attempt to stand or walk as he was currently unable to do so.

Later, he recreated his effort to leave the wheelchair on stage, only to admit it didn’t work and express that it was a “terrible jest.” He also mentioned, “Jamie Foxx doesn’t have strokes,” and in a moment of emotion, exclaimed, “Enough with this deception!
