Ryan Reynolds Reveals One of The Original ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Pitches and Hilarious Rejections from Marvel

As a long-time fan of Marvel movies, I must say that the journey of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is nothing short of extraordinary. It’s fascinating to delve into the behind-the-scenes tales of how these iconic characters found their way onto our screens.

In the past few years, the film featuring Deadpool and Wolverine has been one of the top-performing movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This movie not only introduced these two iconic characters to the big screen but also included some of the most renowned legacy heroes from Marvel’s cinematic lore.

The film’s incorporation of fan-favorite elements contributed significantly to its grossing over $1 billion at the box office and receiving multiple accolades. However, as previously mentioned, the initial concept for ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ was drastically different from what eventually made it to the screen.

In previous attempts, Ryan Reynolds found that his movie ideas were turned down right away.

The film concept ranged from a humorous Christmas tale featuring Deadpool rescuing Santa, to a gritty cop movie titled ‘Alpha Cop.’ Just recently, it was disclosed that the collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine almost didn’t materialize because Ryan Reynolds struggled with the plot, until Hugh Jackman proposed reprising his role, which ultimately led everything to align perfectly – resulting in us being entertained for a billion dollars today.

In a fresh chat with Variety, Reynolds shared an additional, hitherto unheard pitch for the upcoming film that features Bambi as well.

Ryan Reynolds once proposed to Marvel a Deadpool-Wolverine movie inspired by “Rashomon,” featuring shifting viewpoints from both characters. However, this idea was turned down by Marvel, so he humorously suggested some outlandish alternatives such as a film devoid of special effects or conflict in the style of Sundance, and a tale about the hunter who killed Bambi’s mother.

Marvel humorously declined, saying, “We don’t touch Bambi, Ryan.”

They made a fantastic team. It felt destined, since the initial idea I proposed to Marvel and Kevin Feige five years ago was a Deadpool-Wolverine film using the “Rashomon” approach, where we’d see it from his viewpoint, then mine, and finally an unbiased one.

REYNOLDS: They declined my proposals. So I proposed some rather peculiar films instead. One idea was a Sundance film without any special effects or conflict. Another concept involved a two-person story featuring me and the hunter who killed Bambi’s mother. Their response was, “We don’t meddle with Bambi, Ryan.

We knew about the Rashomon-style movie, but we had no idea about the Bambi, and we have only one question for Reynolds – how dare you?
