Learn Why Is Mattel Being Sued Over Wicked Dolls Packaging; Deets Inside

As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience in consumer advocacy and parenting, I must say that this incident is nothing short of a parent’s worst nightmare. The fact that Mattel, a reputable toy company, has allowed such an egregious error to slip through their quality control measures is truly concerning.

Last month, it came to light that Mattel, a toy manufacturer, inadvertently placed a link of adult nature on the packaging of their Wicked dolls. Now, a legal action has been initiated by a parent against the company.

According to Variety’s reports, a South Carolina resident has initiated a class action lawsuit against Mattel. This follows an incident where the buyer and her child unintentionally accessed inappropriate content online, which was not connected to the Wicked doll.

In addition to their initial claim, the plaintiff stated that although Mattel didn’t provide a refund, the pair of mother and daughter experienced emotional distress due to an error in the URL printed on the packaging of the Wicked doll.

The outlet has also shared details about a legal case that alleges explicit, fully nude pornographic content showing sexual acts.

The court document also stated that upon seeing these inappropriate images, the minor immediately told her mother, who was equally shocked. Had the buyer known about this inappropriate flaw in the product, she would not have made the purchase.

According to a TMZ report, Mattel inadvertently printed the wrong web address on their product packaging. Instead of directing customers to a comprehensive toy catalog at “[www.mattel.com]”, they were unintentionally led to an adult-oriented website with the URL “www.wicked.com”.

For those who do not know, the original link was supposed to be www.wickedmovie.com.

A spokesperson for Mattel acknowledged to TMZ that an error in labeling occurred on the Wicked dolls, which are predominantly marketed in the United States.

Additionally, he pointed out that Mattel intends to implement precautions to prevent errors like misprinted URLs on the reverse sides of any forthcoming toys.

The manufacturer removed numerous toys from stores like Target, Amazon, and Kohl’s from their shelves.

Despite the significant effect that a major problem had on toy sales, the film featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo managed to perform strongly at the box office, amassing a gross of $112 million during its opening week.
