Of course Dr. Disrespect is showing up on Rumble, the internet’s armpit

As a lifelong gamer and avid follower of the streaming community, I can’t help but feel disheartened by the recent developments at Rumble. It seems that in our quest for entertainment, we’ve somehow managed to create a haven for individuals who should be nowhere near the limelight due to their questionable behavior.

In a typical community, a 42-year-old man who confessed to having inappropriate talks with a minor girl would likely be ostracized, regardless of whether he faced any legal repercussions. However, in today’s world of social media, there seems to be a cushion or protection that enables the most questionable individuals to evade the consequences of their actions.

In that location, known as Rumble, the controversial ex-Twitch and YouTube personality, Dr. Disrespect, has established his new base. Not only is he setting up there, but he’s also receiving a share of ownership in the platform. On December 2nd, Dr. Disrespect made his debut, and over 40,000 viewers chose to overlook allegations of improper sexual conduct with an underage individual.

As someone who enjoys gaming, it’s rewarding to witness our rise to fame, usually associated with athletes. However, I find it troubling that the popularity of gaming has grown so much that individuals like Disrespect can evade consequences as severely as a professional football player might. Here’s hoping we don’t encounter streaming’s equivalent of the O.J. Simpson case.

Among the notable figures on Rumble, one is Russell Brand, who faced backlash due to sexual misconduct accusations. It’s deeply troubling that such a social media platform exists, seemingly catering to individuals deemed too controversial for other workplaces. Even more alarming is the fact that, despite the odds, it seems to be profitable.

It’s clear he possesses significant talent, yet his massive fan base didn’t just happen by chance. Many equally gifted streamers exist, some even more so, but they don’t carry the same baggage as this individual. If we, the audience, want social media and its celebrities to improve, it’s up to us to demand better.
