Andy Serkis Reveals He was Cast as Knull at the Last Minute, Talks Character’s Future

As a longtime Marvel fan with memories of collecting comic books stacked higher than the Hulk himself, hearing Andy Serkis‘ words about Knull’s potential return has sent chills down my Spider-Sense. The anticipation for ‘Spider-Man 4’ and ‘Secret Wars’ is already through the roof, but with the enigmatic Knull potentially entering the fray, it feels like we’re standing at the gates of a symbiotic storm.

The film ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ has just been launched, and although it started off with somewhat mixed reviews, it ultimately proved to be quite successful and a fitting conclusion to the Venom trilogy. In fact, even before its release, there was much enthusiasm among fans about the news that Knull, one of Marvel’s formidable villains, would be making an appearance in the movie.

As a devoted admirer, I must admit, Knull’s role seemed modest and he didn’t have extensive screen presence. However, the mastermind behind the scenes, Kelly Marcel, hinted at Knull’s promising future in our cinematic universe, suggesting this was merely the start. Indeed, it felt like a tantalizing introduction to something grand.

In a recent conversation, actor Andy Serkis – known for lending his voice to Knull in the film – hinted at potential appearances of this character in upcoming Marvel cinematic productions.

He shared that his role as Knull was a last-minute addition to the film and expressed interest in coming back as the character to battle Spider-Man. Serkis made these comments during an interview at FAN EXPO San Francisco 2024, which featured other superhero stars like Charlie Cox and Grant Gustin.

Indeed, that’s quite intriguing! To be honest, I’m completely clueless about it. It was essentially, “Could you pop in?” It turned out to be quite sudden, truly last minute. “Could you come in and lend your voice for Knull?” So, I did as asked and performed on the spot. There were discussions about, “This could develop further… He’s quite a significant character,” and I responded, “Yes, I’m aware of that.” Well, we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds, I suppose.

What Serkis now said confirms several interesting rumors we’ve heard over the last couple of weeks. Knull is rumored to be both a big villain in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ and to bring Symbiotes to the MCU in ‘Secret Wars.’ Some of that is bound to be false, but the opportunities are certainly intriguing.
