Andrew Keegan Defends His Character From 10 Things I Hate About You; Says ‘There Was Still Something…’

As a follower who has witnessed Andrew Keegan’s journey from the small screen to the headlines and back again, I must say he’s proven himself to be quite the enigma. While he may have played some questionable characters in his day, such as Joey in 10 Things I Hate About You, it seems he’s not one to shy away from defending them.

20 years after portraying the antagonist in the classic film “10 Things I Hate About You,” Andrew Keegan is attempting to change our perception of his character, Joey, suggesting there might have been more nuance to him than initially perceived.

In an interview with People Magazine, he mused about his numerous acting roles in the 90s, many sharing a self-serving motive. He stated, “As an actor, we have various possibilities. I believe I moved back and forth quite a bit. Seventh Heaven is here; yes, I was a single father, which was seen as ‘negative’, but I’ve been rewatching episodes lately, and the character had many sweet aspects too.” He contends that his on-screen characters weren’t purely negative, but rather, they possessed complexity and depth.

According to Keegan from 10 Things I Hate About You, Joey possesses an endearing quality about him that’s hard to ignore. Since actors often incorporate aspects of their own personalities into their characters, he believes there might be a small piece of himself in the role he played. He further notes, “And I consider myself as sweet.

Later on, the actor also filed a defamation lawsuit against AEG and Newsmax.  But from the looks of it, things are much more settled now as he focuses on acting and being a father to his 8-year-old.
