Prior to the release of the new Superman film, James Gunn caught attention by stating that his upcoming Superman production carries a political theme in an article published in The Sunday Times.
Gunns elaborated on Superman’s essence, emphasizing it embodies kindness and the experiences of immigration. He referred to the character as “an immigrant who hails from different lands” and described the tale as “the American story.
Gunn admitted the existence of political differences, pointing out, “Clearly, there will be individuals who lack kindness and may find this offensive… but let’s not give them attention.
Sure thing! “Gunn also pointed out that the film has both a political aspect and a moral one, and he specifically mentioned Krypto the Superdog as an example of this dual nature: ‘It’s definitely got some politics going on. But at another level, it’s about exploring questions of right and wrong.’

Variety Tries to Spark Controversy at Superman Premiere
During the red-carpet event for the premiere of Superman in Hollywood on Monday, Variety, initially labeling James Gunn’s film as silly before retracting the comment, attempted to create a stir by persistently questioning Gunn, Nathan Fillion, and Sean Gunn regarding potential backlash from MAGA supporters due to their comments on immigration.
In a manner that emphasized the anger on the political right, the interview subtly focused on the controversy sparked by the comments, implying they touched upon a significant cultural battleground. Additionally, the interviewer appeared to enjoy asking these provocative questions.

Nathan Fillion brushed it off: “Aw, somebody needs a hug. Just a movie, guys.”

In a more straightforward response, Sean Gunn stated that Superman’s background as an immigrant is central to the narrative of the story.
According to Gunn, “We back our citizens and appreciate our newcomers. Indeed, Superman embodies the immigrant spirit. And those we stand by in this nation are primarily immigrants.” If you disagree with this, then perhaps you’re not truly embodying American values. Those who reject immigrants go against the essence of America and what the American Dream represents.
